apparently he's friends with someone at Illinois which leads everyone to believe that he will go there, if he doesn't leave for Illinois he'll probably stay.

Don't really see what is so appealing to go to Illinois...go up agsainst Wisky, Ohio State, Michigan St, Michigan on a regular basis? No thank you. He has VCU in a better spot then Illinois is in and like you said, another deep run here and he is even more set. Will have more favortism from the bracket committee the following years to earn better seeds, better recruits, etc. VCU is right now for Smart, a more favorable job then Illinois.

He used to work with their AD, Mike Thomas. I'm not sure they're friends, but they definitely respect each other.

otherwise yes it would be a good idea to stay at VCU, because right now he's on the verge of turning them into a national recognized program, in fact a win tonight would probably do it.

Check out the list of Chicago area recruits since 2006. If he can own the Chicago recruiting market, he could build a dynasty.

Above .500, and solid for a mid-major, but definitely not near the tournament. I think they went about 20-15.
