heard it briefly on the radio. Anybody have a link that talks more to this?

The 1.3 million bonus was on his entry level contract which ended this season. The bonus gets added to next years cap for Chicago. 1.3 mill less to spend for Chicago because Toews won the Conn Smythe ... yikes!!!

Maybe they can move Burish to an Atlantic division team other than the Flyers for a little cap relief...

Blob Mckenzie said hes 100% certain that the guys with contracts that wont be back next year are Huet, Versteeg, and Sopel and the Hawks will still need to trade away salary after getting rid of those guys

they could solve alot of problems if they could get someone to bite on Campbell

holy crap, if this is true:
Blackhawks exceed salary cap by millions - The Globe and Mail

then both Kane and Toews bonuses total about $5M.
Not just the 1.3M for getting the Conn Smythe.
Good luck Hawks.

Interesting read. That's also one of the big reasons i wanted the Hawks to lose.
They had a single shot to make their run, as the team gets blown up in the summer.
I find it a tough pill to swallow that a GM can have (beyond their two legitimate stars) a $5.6 million back-up goalie, a $7.2 million 3rd d-man (who played himself to the #5 spot), and STILL have the room to pay Hossa $7.9 million for the next seven years. That should NOT be a recipe for success.

Regardless of what happens as long as the Hawks still have Kane, Toews, Keith, and Seabrook at the beginning of next year I dont care. They brought home the cup

I think these things will happen:

Ladd is allowed to be signed to an offer sheet, Hawks take the picks.

Byfuglien is traded for picks/prospects.

Versteeg is packaged along with picks/prospects to entice someone to grab Huet in return for a cheap veteran. Versteeg + Huet + picks for Marty St. Louis makes the most sense to me.

They are still going to be close to the cap, so they might have to dump someone like Sharp if it comes down to it. I don't think Campbell will be as tough to move as people think, but they will have to take a huge drop off in talent in order to save enough money to make it worth their while. I could see the Coyotes offering up one of their cheaper defensemen in a trade.

That is going to be a GM's nightmare. I think they will try and unload Campbell but with his contract that's going to be a tough sell. I wonder how many years he has on it.

6 years, and he also has a somewhat limited NTC (he can select eight teams to be traded to, the Hawks have 45 days to trade him from notification).

Who would trade for that contract? If you're a rebuilding team in need of some experience and offense from the blue line, you would be too worried about handicapping yourself 3-6 years down the road. If you're gunning for a Cup... well, you probably don't have that kind of cap room. The only way I see them moving Campbell is in a "bad contract for a bad contract" trade. Thomas, Drury, Jeff Finger, someone like that has to be going the other way.

It's funny but when the Hawks made that move I said it was a dumb one. Some people said it was sour grapes on my part but I saw him play for a few years and knew better. All I can say is I'm glad the Sabres said so long Brian when he wanted that money.
