Why not?

He seems to be coming apart at the seams. Benched Johansen for the final five minutes and all of overtime again last night and then backhanded slapped him in the post game presser again. He's losing the team, I can feel it.

I don't know what he's got against Joey, but the team was clearly on Johansen's side when he got the shootout winner. A coach who consistently benches his team's best player (and one of only two to appear in every game) without directly addressing why is not going to survive.

Plus, on the ice, he's mixing lines too much and is going back to that stupid "pass back to the D from neutral zone on power play" crap that kept them out of the offensive zone for 1:30 of a 2 min power play. Florida just stacked the Neutral Zone and took the puck away. All night.

Should not be that easy to stop an NHL team's Power Play.

Sorry, there is literally zero percent chance Richards is fired, even if what you say is true. What coach is going to want to work for a franchise after they fire theirs and seemingly pin the blame for 4000 injuries on him? You'll be lucky to attract Mike Keenan.

I hear Dan Bylsma is free.

Wait I thought he was a professional snowboarder? :noidea:

Didn't you win last night? Is this what you do in 'Lumbus?

Maybe I am wrong but it's not like you guys have been at a 100% manpower lately.

I agree about Todd Richards - he's just done uncharacteristic things this season - it's like he has something stuck up his ass - he's been impatient and he's acted like a prick towards his best players, the players that are giving him their all and want to be there

For all the problems they've had, the Jackets are hanging in there as of late

That name is being bandied about by some locally.

So is that one.

I will be at the airport when they arrive and the bodies will never be found.

The Jackets have not outshot an opponent in weeks. Last night, it was nearly 3-1 shots against. It was a win, but not one that should be celebrated. And tomorrow they play Tampa. They could give up 10 to that team.

And yeah, they have had injuries and voodoo level bad luck. But purposely pissing off and talking shit about the few guys who are there every night and are leading the team in every way is not good. Especially when the one guy you target so often spent the summer needing to be convinced to sign. A guy who, coincidentally, you said showed up "out of shape" and has, as yet, NOT gotten hurt and hit the ground running.

Piss him off into demanding a trade and you pretty much HAVE to land McDavid. There is no other choice.

Then there's the guy who is the heart and soul of the team right now who is a pending UFA *and* the team's leading goal scorer. The GM sent a contract extension proposal and received back crickets.

Richards could be circling the wagons and saying "Look, we keep getting throat punched, but we're in this together". Instead he points to one or two guys who are leading in every way and saying "Why isn't he doing more?"

Bottom line is, that's how you lose a room. Taking out into the public will do it every time. If the guys need an attitude adjustment, you pull 'em into your office. You don't say "I knew I could count on Calvert" when someone asks you why Johansen was not in there in OT".

Indeed.

But they need Tyutin, Letestu and Murray just as much. Being outshot 2-1 is not sustainable.

Doubt Richards gets fired. Especially after all the injuries that team has had this year.

Well, four wins in a row helps him.

REEEAAAALLY looked like he was losing the room there a short while ago. That would just make a bad situation worse.

Back on the menu boys...

It's kind of like the Pitt situation last year. There are positives, but at the end of the day Bylsma had one plan. It's looking that way with Richards again.

He has been juggling lines and putting players in and out of the lineup, but one constant is meat head Boll. Who went out last night right after the Habs had scored and put them on the power play again with a lazy play. Where they tied it and took all the momentum. Right up to that point the Jackets were poised and responding. The Habs were playing hard, but the Jackets were weathering it until Boll took the wind out of the Jackets sails.

And getting outshot 2-1 is never going to work.

Doubt they sack him in-season. If they aren't seeing progress from the youngsters he could go in the off-season. Management obviously believes he's been hamstrung by injuries and continues to be so.

At this point he has 8 D and 14 forwards healthy, and the ones who are still out are a #3C and two guys under 22 (albeit very talented ones) plus Horton. The injuries hurt, no doubt but he can't keep leaning on that. He keeps moving players in and out and no synergy is coming. The only thing he's done right in terms of lineup is putting Johansen, Foligno and Hartnell together. Those three with Bob and Calvert are the only ones it seems the team can count on at this point. Calvert is blocking shots like he gets paid 100k for each one.

They get outshot in almost every game they play. If not for a month of Bob playing out of his mind, they would be dead last in the league. And that December run increased their odds of making the playoffs from 1.7% to 3.1%. They are back down around 1%

And he can't be too comfy in what management thinks because the current administration didn't hire him. He's Howson's boy. Jarmo and JD would have blasted him in the offseason if not for getting into the playoffs.

And they may have had Laviolette....

Time to pull the chute.

Time to pull the chute.

Davidson fired Payne in STL 12 games into the season. He doesn't care who did what (although Payne had missed the playoffs); if it isn't working he'll find someone who can make it work.

I think they just don't see this team competing for anything right now so might as well let them take their cuts then go into the summer with a gameplan. A higher draft pick is excellent trade bait and right now this team needs the consistent veteran they thought they were getting when they signed Horton.
