I don't understand this one. That was a really well played, straightforward hockey game. I didn't think the officiating was an issue.

Did they think the Malkin goal shouldn't have counted? Is he just being whiny? So many questions...

Probably just heat of the moment frustration after a loss and probably taken out of context by a reporter trying to generate clicks.

But it's also possible that a new organization has taken over as the whiniest

In actuality, the league never called anyone in the Caps' organization to say it was a clean hit. What did happen was the on-site official clarified the process the refs used to make the call on ice (which it seems clear they got wrong).


DSP just misunderstood at best and is trying to stir up shit at worst.

Right, but the league looks at result, not intent/action. They're more inclined to get you for hitting a guy in the head when you weren't trying to than aiming for the head and missing, it seems.

A good listen is the Elliot Friedman/Jeff Marek "31 Thoughts" podcast with Brian Burke this week where Burke breaks down in detail what happens at a DOPS hearing and they have a mock hearing. They go to pretty long lengths about how the RESULT of the hit (see: Medical Records of the player who gets hit) is weighed heavily in the punishment.

Mind you, this podcast was recorded before the DOPS hearing.
