Tired of Dipoto Shopping at Walmart for Pitchers?

When I was a kid I would go to the Everett Giants/Aquasox baseball camp every year so I had loads of gear from players that either never made it or barely made it. I had couple Everett Aquasox baseball cards of Jose Cruz Jr.... I took it to a card shop and traded for 2 Griffey's, a Dan Wilson and Chris Bosio (Bosio because he signed my hat).

When living in Cali near Visalia where M's had a minor league team at the time (if my memory still works) I got a signed bat from the top prospect of the time for M's Marc Newfield. I guess I am not going to retire early on it?

baseball cards were a big deal in my family, when I was a kid I thought they were cool and would get complete sets as gifts from the grand parents. I ended up with over 200 Griffey cards and tried to collect all the Mariners I could. My dad still has most of his cards from his youth, they are pretty cool to look at. Recently a sports memorabilia auctioneer gave my dad $100 just to look at his collection... Sadly I just don't care about baseball cards anymore, should get rid of them before they get destroyed or damaged somehow.

Card collecting has been my one vice in life. I go in spurts and have over 100K cards in my collection. I think I have over 500 Griffey cards alone plus all kinds of other item including a statue like item of him that might be the only one out there. It is like a plexiglass picture of him batting with Sandy Alomar Jr catching and an umpire behind him. It is 22" high and 33" long. I bought that in Cali as well 25 years ago. Sorry to go on, but it is still my 'thing'.

Or an addiction...lol. I blame my mom because in mid 70's she always bought me a pack of cards (26 cents) when she went to the local market. I guess it was better than candy.

I remember back in 1993-94 when my wife and I were living in Carlsbad, CA and my mom calls and said she bought me a 1000 count box of cards her neighbor was selling. I just thought it was funny she did that out of the blue. I paid her for them and shipping and the wife and I had a ball going through them. It's like X-mas for us.

I used to collect. Absolutely loved my cards. Lived in North Carolina for a couple years, and while I was gone my mother sold my entire 20,000 card collection. She sold them for $20. I was so pissed. Haven’t been able to get back into it since.

I had tons of Star War toys as a kid and my mom sold them at a garage sale at $10.00 for everything...

I still have some of them....luckily, but she sold all my action figure toys like The Lone Ranger and Tonto with the horses and all accessories plus my GI Joes...yes my damn GI Joes!!!!!

Damn, I must have been the best at getting horrible cards. I think the only card I ever got that was worth something was a McGwire. I got a few Craig Griffey's but never Junior.

Hahaha.... Only once and awhile would I get individual packs of cards. Usually I would get the box sets of different brands as gifts from the g-parents. My card collection is almost exclusively 90's, little bit of late 80's. So I missed out on some of the cool cards that annointedone and AZ got in on.

All this talk is making me want to go through my cards again. Its been years....

Maybe we should start a trading card thread?

Madden football has monetized on that with their ultimate team mode.

Basically how it works is you get points for completing challenges, you can use those points to buy packs or individual players that you can use in game. If you don't want to do that, you can buy Microsoft points to use on buying packs/coins/etc.

Whenever I'd complete a number of challenges I was so excited about the players I might get for my team.

Even when I was a kid, the thrill of seeing who you might get in a pack of (real) cards was incredible. One of my favorite players growing up was Vlad. Can't describe the thrill I got when I opened a pack of cards and landed Vladimir Guerrero. Yeah, it wasn't worth anything, but was super cool seeing that I got him in my pack of cards.

I've held on to all the memorabilia from when I was a kid. Luckily my mother is such a saint that she has all that clutter at her house lol. When I was a kid, I'd save Seattle Times articles whenever something historic happened.

I don't care about the monetary value, it's mostly sentimental for me.

Right! I watched the first few innings of the game today, he pitched pretty well but its only 2 innings. The issue is when he has to go through the lineup 2-3 times, the case with several M's pitchers.
