trade player except for a select few for prospects and young players. Might suck for a few years, but the farm is empty of any real talent and the players that were good on the team have gotten injured, old and used up.

Pablo needs to go to an AL team in need of a DH.

Blanco and Torres just need to go for anything. The Giants have minor league players who can not hit just as well as they do. Maybe they can even run the bases correctly.

Timmy has no control of his pitches get something for him. He is sure as shit gone in the off season anyway. Heck I don't even care if comes back to be a 5th guy in the rotation.

Lopez, Affeldt, and Romo could get a few good prospects. Every team needs bullpen help.

Zito is going to be a free agent after this year. If the Giants can get him to wave the no trade clause and ship him to a contender who needs a fifth starter for anything its all gravy.

Quiroz and Sanchez can go as well. Just DFA Quiroz he blows and Sanchez can go be a back up on a team who needs a catcher who cant play defense or hit.

Scutoro can be traded to a team that can use a no defense but can hit second baseman.

They can become the Red Sox of last year. They got a bunch of real good prospects and young players. This year they are in first place and they have a bunch of great prospects to bring up the next 2 years to make their team even better and to prepare for the lose of key players next year like Elsbury.

I said the same thing about the Lakers at the end of the 2010-2011 season. Now the team is old, slow, and looks like they have no hope for the future. I don't want the Giants to end up in the same situation.

No, not gonna happen. You just can't blow up a team that just came off a World Series championship, and relatively the same core group of guys who just came off 2 championships in 3 years.

All the guys you brought up bring little value to the table in terms of prospects. We don't have an A-Gon or Crawford to trade, and really the only reason they were able to trade them was because of the stupid Dodgers. There isn't a team out there like that right now.

Zito's option for next year picks up automatically if traded, plus he has a full no-trade clause so he'd have to approve a trade. And honestly I doubt he'd approve anything. He likes life in the Bay Area, just got married, is a West Coast guy. He just won 2 rings, so there's no excuse that he's dying for a ring.

People are overreacting, this team has a ton of talent, they are just mired in a terrible slump. How do you think Posey and Cain would feel, after recently signing very long extensions, if the FO decided to blow up the team? Giants have one bad month and it's starting to sound like old ESPN over here. Come on guys, we're better than this.

You'd get maybe 3 decent prospects for Sergio and Pablo, nothing at all for our backup catchers, backup OFs, and overpaid former aces.

What sfgiants said, let's not flip out here.

You would get prospects and free up a lot of money to grab some good free agents next year.

i do not believe i am over reacting. I believe everyone else is under reacting. They are a pitching first team that cant pitch and haven't all season. They became a good offense for a while and then it all went away.

They are a team right now that cant pitch, cant hit, cant run bases, and cant play defense. There is not one aspect of the game that the Giants are doing well. And most are getting over paid to do it. They lost all their motivation it seems.

So you believe that the key to building a winning team is through free agency?

Wow. You don't follow the Giants, do you?

I posted a pretty detailed look at our roster and what I think we may be able to get for each of our "available" MLB guys a couple days ago. I think it was in the "Miami Trade" thread. That is a thoughtful take on what you just posted. Not quite as much knee-jerking as you employed, though...

I just can't see this as anything but pantshitting. To blow up the team that has a solid nucleus seems silly to me. Timmeh handcuffs this team with his 20 mil price tag, but that expires this year. Our #3 starter has been hurt for awhile, his backup has gotten hurt, and we are rolling to battle with a kid who isn't ready for the show IMO. Our offense has been hurt with Pagan and Panda having missed time, Scutaro needing to be handled with kid gloves, and is nipple deep in a slump right now. None of which is reason to trade low and gut the team. We are in last place currently but only like 4 games out of 1st.

Like I said, I just see this as pant-shitting, nothing more.

Never did I say to build through free agency. I said grab some good free agents. A fourth and fifth starter to replace Tim and Zito. It is obvious to me that there is no one in the minors who can do it next year. Kickham is 2 years away from being a legit fifth starter. The Giants drafted nothing but reaches lately due to good season and low draft positions. And who knows Vogelsong might be done as well.

Sometimes you have to add a few solid free agent players to make a team good again. And no, I don't mean for a team to go out and go after some over priced player who only had 1 good year.

But to stand pat or make a few small changes will not fix this team.

The Giants are 12th in team ERA, 13th in fielding, and 8th in hitting for the NL. Which of those is any good? A pitch first team is the fourth worst pitching team in the NL. Something is drastically wrong. Half the season is already done. Its not like it is only been a month that they have sucked.

Trade for prospects, get some free agents next year while those prospects develop, and then get back to the way of winning.

It's ridiculous to think about blowing up a team that won 2 WS in 3 years.

It's just a slump, hang in there and things will get ever, even with such a horrible slump the Giants are only 3 games out.

BTW I don't know who's going to give a lot of prospects for Lincecum, Zito, Torres or Scutaro with 2 years left on his contract.

Rebuilding a team is not the same as trying to purchase a contender through the FA route. Ask the doggies about the FA route! Very expensive and nothing is ever a 'sure thing'. The only time I can remember 'blowing up' a team was when the Marlins dismantled their WS team the following year. That was done from a pure monetary perspective. This team (SF) has talent but also has a few holes that have developed along the way. They are struggling but so is the rest of the division. As MSG must have said 1,000,000 times ... repeating is so difficult. As Giant fans we are spoiled. Our expections were most likely set that the playoffs were a given. Looks like now it will be a real fight to the end. My guess is that the WC positions will not come from anywhere in the NL West. It's either take the division or watch the playoffs from home ....

Is it considered blowing up the team if as FA's I say we explore the option of letting Pence (may want 4-5/15M per) and Lincecum (I want no part of) walk as well Zito depending on how that goes.

I would keep Vogelsong, so we would have to replace RF, and 2 SP possibly but if we trade for a guy like Norris, maybe just one SP.

Which boat am I in?

I don't think that qualifies as 'blowing up' the team. As long as we identify a core of players and build around that I still think we are in more of a rebuild/recover mode rather than a 'dump and buy' mode. When the Marlins dismantled I don't believe there were doing that to correct and glaring issues. Most WS Champions do not have that many glaring issues the following year. We have our share but I don't think it requires us to start replacing 60% or more of our roster in one major overhaul

We are only 4 games out of first place, people.

That is buying territory, not selling territory.

The team has been in a serious funk since Toronto. 2nd worst team in MLB bad. But through all of that, we are still one good week from 1st place.

Changes need to be made, but not yet. Trades rarely happen at this time of year. We will need to wait at least 2 weeks before a deal will be done, and I can guarantee you that trades WILL be made.

The Lakers were/are old with massive contracts. The Giants are young w/ favorable contracts, and the guys that have tanked are doing so prior to what would have been a big pay day. Everything is working out just fine. 162 games, and this team is built for the next decade.

On May 13, the G's were 23-15.

Since then we are 16-29.

By comparison:

HOU is 20-25.

MIA is 19-25.

MIL is 17-29.

SEA is 18-27.

If there was some team worse, I couldn't find 'em.

Just sayin'.

What? Blow up the Giants dynasty?

Actually, with the way this Division is going the Giants have just as much of a chance as anyone. Plus, I have to believe Sabean will make a couple of moves.

YOU ARE A MORON!!

I know you're new to this board, probably a Disney refugee. This type of crap will not stand here. If you've got something substantive to bring to the board then do so. Otherwise refrain from posting.
