So he misses the saturday rematch against the Isles. Dammit. I'm sure Nielsen has a long memory...

/Konopka-Carcillo should be fun.

yah i agree its about right

just hearing some talk about it and i didnt read any of the weekend threads so I dont know if this has been brought up but why didnt Briere just get himself kicked out of the faceoff circle and let Carcillo take the draw. I know its kinda a pussy way out and its letting another guy fight your battles but Im sure the flyers would rather have Briere playing the next 3 games than suspended.

So a repeat offender can take two vicious hacks at a guy and gets nothing, yet a guy who's never been in trouble before take a swipe at a guy's head and gets the gate for three games?!? I think one game would have been fine for the actual action. I think the fact that it was a blowout game and happened in the dying minutes is the main reason Briere got three games. Also, I'm sure the Flyers reputation also factored into his judgement.

Campbell continues to be all over the map with his decisions.

Edit: I guess Briere has been in the doghouse twice before...My bad.

This is the third suspension of Briere's career. He was assessed a two-game ban in Nov. 2009 for an illegal hit, and two games in Mar. 2006 for a high-sticking incident.

the suspension last year was a HUGE joke.. they called it viscous because it happened a second after the avs guy scored a goal.. all 125 pounds of briere jumped into a guy that was significantly bigger.. guy didnt even move and a penalty was not called.. that was a bad suspension

this one however, was deserved.. you cant whack someone in the head with your stick intentionally, or you get suspended.. i just dont understand what the linesman was thinking leaving nielson in the circles.. he skated into and then stood over briere while talking trash.. if a guy gets thrown out for not putting his stick down in time, shouldn't nielson get tossed from the faceoff for skating into the opposing player?

not that it justifies briere's reaction.. but i just think the linesman should be reprimanded too.. either a talking to, a fine, or suspension, what have you

Considering the fact that Wisniewski got 2 games for a gesture, Briere got off easy. If he wasn't a repeat offender Briere probably would have been fined & wouldn't have missed a game. He should have been suspended at least 5 games. Players need to realize their stick can easily be a weapon.

Hey Bolts, on a side note, the Av's are sticking with Grahme and Budaj until Anderson's return. Supposed to only be a couple of weeks. As far as the Thomas trade, I don't think anyone can afford him right now and I don't think the B's will part with him.:D 0.50 GAA right now!

It looks like Thomas has taken his job back. I doubt Boston would trade Rask. If the Avalanche continue to score they have lately it might not matter.

Yea, they wont survive to long without Anderson, but if they can get solid performances out of their backups, your right they can def score enough to steal a few.. A lot of young talent on that team..

Seems right. Like I said before, any use of the stick as a weapon should be an automatic 2 - 5 games. Avery should have been suspended for 4 - 6 based on history and the fact that he took two slashes. But 3 for Briere makes sense since he went for the head. He probably doesn't get suspended at all if he goes for the torso, but the head is serious business. I think this was the appropriate decision.

I didn't say it. :)

He deserved a suspension, but I say 2 games.

I disagree. Wisniewski got two games for a gesture. Briere was a repeat offender. He should have been given at least 5 games. This was a typical Colin Campbell decision. If Briere hadn't been a repeat offender he probably would have only paid a fine.

Briere is been a repeat offender, but it is not like he is some dirty player like Avery,
