And the final play of that Tampa Bay vs. New York game.

I personally loved it. Had Eli fumbled there (and don't say that never happens, Rivers did it a few years ago and no one even touched him) and Tampa got the ball back and tied it people would be calling him a genius. I love the never quit attitude he brings.

I don't blame teams for wanting to take it easy on "take a knee" type of plays. But you can't fault a guy for making his players play 60 minutes at 100%. I am cool with teams who mutually agree to take it easy on each other should a "take a knee" scenerio occur. On that same token, prepare yourself, because every team does not owe you the right to take it easy during that time.

it's not like Eli took a shot, he got pushed a little. It's football.

I agree, they had 59 plus minutes to beat the Giants, game was over, it looked like sour grapes to me. If the tables were turned Schaino wouldve blown a gasket

Schiano has caused 4 fumbles like that at Rutgers. I don't think Schiano would have said a word if it was reversed. Like I have said, if you want the game to only be 59 minutes then make the 4th quarter 14 minutes long. That is like saying well we are losing with 12 seconds to go, let's not bother with the Music City Miracle. They had 59 minutes to win too right? Why didn't they give up?

Well, he sure played his hand and now the rest of the league will be ready and taking shots at Freeman, I hope theyre ready for it, to me it's pointless

Only because it didn't work do you find it pointless. I find Plays where people throw the ball back and forth across the field at the end of the game pointless because they never work. Until that time they do.

It's completely pointless and bush league..... The only reason it was even remotely interesting was that it became 'commonplace' for teams to concede the game. If this is no longer true, NFL teams will simply practice a 'live' version for the final kneel-down that will entail full contact at the line, and the quarterback kneeling the ball a few yards back. It's likely that it will never cause a fumble, but it could cause an injury. After all, how many times in the NFL do you see a fumbled snap during a 2 minute offense when running the ball? How can a defense cause a fumble simply by flooding the middle on a kneel-down play? They can't. It won't happen.

No intent to injure the opponent. They're trying to win the game. They're playing within the rules..

Don't know why there's even a controversy surrounding the play in question

When your team pulled stuff like this last season it's hypocrtical to argue about sportsmanship and the sanctity of player saftey...

The game is 60 minutes, right? These are grown men, right? Play hard the entire game; that's what you're paid for. For all the whining about the game becoming more 'pussified', people are wetting their panties because a coach wanted his team to play hard (and try for a miracle win) until the final whistle? If you have a problem with that, more than likely you have a mangina.

Tell Philip Rivers you can't fumble a snap within the last 2 minutes to lose a game.....

Rivers play was completely different. The game was tied and they were driving to kick a field goal. When is the last time a quarterback fumbled a football in victory formation?

I have no problem with it whatsoever. Play until the clock hits 0:00.

I hope Schiano gave Coughlin a mouthful in return.

I frankly don't care if this is what starts to happen. It won't change a single outcome. It was simply someone taking advantage of convention and it failed.

BTW -- I like Schiano. Early in the day yesterday I was comparing him to a young Tom Coughlin. I think he'll be a good coach. But like a young Tom Coughlin, I think he'll also spend some time engaging in ridiculous plays/rules that have little to do with wins/losses.

bush league...particularly bc the DT from Tampa went low on the center....I know people say never say never, but an NFL QB will NEVER fumble the ball on a kneel down. Never gonna happen.

My only problem with the play, the Buccs did not hit them hard enough to cause a turnover. If they could have hit Manning hard enough before he knew what was happening, he might have fallen backwards fumbling the football.

I didn't have a problem with the hit on Armon Binns this last week either. He was aiming for Binns chest, and Binns came out of the air and his helmet landed on top of the Browns tackler.

I had a serious problem with the hit Taylor Mays had in week 4 of the preseason though. That was leading with his helmet right into the other players helmet. Too dangerous for either player when you do that. I would flag Mays just for being an idiot.

just bc you're aggresive doesnt make you a good coach. If that were the case Mike Singletary would've been a huge success. I think as fans we like those guys...but I'm not sure that's the best approach. Players gotta like playing for you and I'm assuming that professional athletes are a major pain in the ass to deal with. I dont think Marv is a good coach, but I do think his guys play for him.
