Completing 64% this season. 93.1 QB Rating. I think he gets a bad rap because of all the allegations at Auburn. Yea, he acts childish at times, but he gets better better as the time goes. I think he has the potential to be truly amazing. Your thoughts?

Ok, it was about potential based on performance (hey, I can bold, too!). This doesn't counter what I said in my previous post. You're not basing your judgement on solid ground.

You're saying judgment, but we're talking about predictions for the future.

Cam hasn't been "truly amazing," as he put it, so far in his career. He has plenty of time to get to that level or fall flat on his face or anything in between. Stats don't prove what a guy's going to do in the future.

He's talented physically, not sure about his mental talent. I'm concerned about the Panthers though. They look like a very good team, great defense.

Right, we're talking about predictions, and that's why I brought up the whole element of subjectivity, previously. Cam has done some amazing stuff. I think, personally, that he needs better OLine and receivers (though Olsen and Smitty are excellent, our #2 Lafell - meh) around him. But the data shows that he's done pretty well, I disagree that Tannehill and Locker having more potential, and that's not coming out of left field - again, the numbers point that way.

When playing quarterback? Russell Wilson disagrees and I can't stand him...

Russel Wilson is a different type of QB though. When trying to bring down RT, JL, or CN, the extra weight definitely makes a difference.

I agree but if that is a focal point in his game, he won't make it as an NFL QB. Newton has got to go through his progressions and make the right read. I say the same shit about Kaepernick on a weekly basis. There is a reason this read option offense has never worked in the NFL. This year it has been significantly reduced and will continue to decline. You can't have your franchise, chained to a player who may or may not play the next week, due to injury. It's not smart business.

We have a different OC, and the read option is no longer the core of our Offense - we run it maybe 3-5 times a game (probably about the same as the Niners). Cam has gotten much more patient, going through his progressions.

But NYfan had it dead right earlier, about how we're going to perform against the top teams. And, imo, this game is a defining moment of where Cam is going to take this franchise, win or lose. He's gotta bring his A game this week, to be sure.

Let me tell you, I'm definitely concerned about this game. Not so much about Cam but you guys' defense. Getting Aldon back makes me feel a little better but in no way do I see this as a lock. Carolina is for real.

Some of Cam's antics...the superman thing for instance...is not going to win over many of his critics, but I've been saying he's the forgotten "young" QB when everyone mentions, Kaep, RW, etc...this is his 3rd yr...supposedly the breakout yr...he's playing well...imo a QB you don't really want to face right now.

Cam has improved greatly this year. He has gotten a lot smarter with his decisions, taking the check down, going to his 2nd or 3rd read, etc. There are also times I think he could overthrow a cheetah. His numbers have been great this year but he is also going for the 6-8 yard pass more than the 20+ yard pass. (The Patriots won championships doing that.) He has every physical tool that you could want in a QB and is smarter than most people realize.

The big knock against him has been his perceived attitude, the towel over the head, sitting by himself on the bench, and comments at press conferences. The towel thing started before Auburn and is just a habit that I don't think anything short of electroshock can break. If the Panthers score a TD or go 3 and out it's going on Cam's head. Watch Cam on the sidelines now, he is talking with his coaches and teammates. And he's learned what to say when talking to the press. Starting in high school, Cam never lost a game until he came to the Panthers. He's spent the last 2 years learning what to do when things don't go right and it is starting to show.

The Panthers know what they have in Cam and how to use it. Most of the pressure has been taken off him, he does not have to do it all. We have a great stable of running backs and reliable WR's. We have to let Cam be Cam, let him run a few times a game, let him move outside the pocket to find the open man. He will never be strictly a pocket passer or strictly a running QB.

My only real problem with Cam is that he still has not shown the ability to make a comeback. He is a great front runner, he is about unstoppable if Carolina has a 2 score lead. I love those wins but I want to see Carolina down 4 points with 90 seconds left and Cam lead a TD drive for the win. What I like is that he is growing up. The Atlanta game is a prime example. The last 2 years, after throwing the 2 int's and just not playing well Cam would have folded, not now.

Olsen is solid, and LaFell is showing maybe he is a #2 WR, to go with a still good but aging Smith...I still wonder how much better Cam could be with another playmaker to get the ball to.

Oh come on. Don't you think that's a little sensitive?

Locker: 6'3 223 with a rocket of an arm. Ran a 4.59 at the combine & a 6.77 3-cone drill. Ran a ton in college.

Tannehill: 6'4 221 with a huge arm. Ran a 4.58 40 at A&M (don't remember if he ran at combine) and used to play WR.

Cam: 6'5 248 with a cannon. Ran a 4.59 at the combine & a 6.92 3-cone. Ran a ton in college.

Explain to me how one has such an enormous athletic / running advantage over the others.

a better comparison is another large-sized QB in Terrelle Pryor

Cam is in his third year. in his first year, he ran for 706 yds and 14 TD. in his 2nd year he ran for 741 yds, 8 TD

Pryor is currently #1 in the NFL for a QB with 485 yds rushing thru 7 games

as for how Cam compares to Locker and Tannehill as a passer:

Cam (currently in 3rd yr)
1st year - 4051 yds, 21 TD
2nd year - 3869 yds, 19 TD

Locker (currently in 3rd yr)
total over his 3 years so far: 3950 yds, 22 TD plus 484 rushing, 4 rushing TD

Tannehill (currently in 2nd yr)
1st year: 3294 yds, 12 TD plus 211 yds rushing and 2 rushing TD

Athletically yes, but I left him out of the discussion because Pryor is barely good enough to be in the NFL at all IMO. I didn't want to go down that road with a comparison to Pryor.
