Couple more tweets:

Peter Chiarelli says if Thomas doesn't play he'd be suspended and still on cap. Would use Savard's hit as cap relief.

Jimmy Murphy ‏@MurphysLaw74
Chiarelli hasn't gotten definite answer from Thomas but he is going under premise he won't play

he's got a point!

Thomas won a cup for Boston. Luongo could take a dump in my front lawn and retire with a cap hit of 10 mill a year as long as he won a cup.

Seriously though...can you imagine going up to your boss and saying this. "Listen, it's been a rough year for me and the family, just need a breather. Think it's okay if I just take off some time?" "Sure, I understand if you need a week or two." "Oh, uh, I was thinking of just taking off the year." "Hahahhaa..ahah.hh..Oh, you're not joking? Um, well, you'll...umm...listen, you'll just be fired." "Oh, I was sort of expecting a years pay." "Get out."

Actually, I can. We call it a sabbatical and get paid!

Screw you professor. I'd get laughed at heartily. Although if I go get that pesky masters degree and work for a University? BTW, is a sabbatical just intended to allow you time for getting published and what not?

Yeah, and you have to be pretty well into tenure to get one. Usually we get it to work on a book.

I wonder if this is Thomas's way of easing himself into retirement without the distraction of having to pick up and move to another team? The guy is a freak of nature, but who takes a year off at age 38 and comes back able to perform?

Is Ron Jeremy the answer?

I think Rask has been ready to start in this league since 2009; he just had the same obstacle as Cory Schneider. He's already led the league in save percentage and goals against average once each, and that's more than a lot of really good HOF goaltenders can claim.

Thomas' stock is still high. It's definitely the right time to pull the trigger on a deal just to get some assets in return.

Didn't rask basically win the starting job a couple years ago then lose it with poor play?

Roger Clemens. Maybe he needs a year to get some specialized treatment. Who amongst us would be shocked that a 38 year old who is that thick and plays that physically was getting help.

Thomas doesn't strike me as a steroids kind of guy.

No, Thomas was the starter but had a torn labrum that affected his play and Rask ended up getting the job (and won the Vezina). He had surgery after the season and came back to lead the Bruins to the cup.

That came out wrong, I meant Clemens. The people that were shocked were nuts.

Ah... so the only examples of guys who took a year off and came back ready to rock are a baseball player who only played every five games and was on the juice, and a guy who pounded ass for a living? I rest my case...
