Wake officially adds Wisconsin grad transfer Devin Gaulden | CollegeFootballTalk
Earlier today Wake Forest announced that defensive back Thomas Brown has been suspended for the 2015 opener. A short time later, they announced the addition of a player who could potentially take his place.

Following up on speculation from the last couple of days, Wake confirmed in a press release that it has officially added Devin Gaulden to its football roster. Gaulden, a defensive back, decided late last month to transfer from Wisconsin.

Because Gaulden has already received his degree from UW, he will be eligible to play immediately in 2015 as a grad transfer.

Wake suspends one starter for five games, another for opener | CollegeFootballTalk
Just a couple of days before summer camp opens, Wake Forest has meted out punishment that will impact both its offensive line and defensive secondary once the 2015 season kicks off.

The football program announced in a press release that Ryan Anderson has been suspended for the first five games of the 2015 season for violating unspecified team rules. The redshirt freshman offensive lineman will miss games against Elon, Syracuse, Army Indiana and Florida State before being eligible to return for the Oct. 10 road trip to Boston College.

Prior to his suspension, Anderson was viewed as the likely starter at center for the Demon Deacons.

In addition to Anderson, Wake also announced that Thomas Brown will be suspended for the opener against Elon for, you guessed it, violating unspecified team rules. The junior was slated to be one of Wake’s starting safeties.

Went to the game 20 years ago in South Bend-over. I'm sure the ticket was, like, $15 and a can of Dr. Pepper or something.

Jayhawks add ex-Hokie WR Joshua Stanford to roster | CollegeFootballTalk
Kansas revealed its updated roster Thursday, with Stanford appearing as the only previously unknown transfer the Jayhawks had picked up this offseason. Stanford is the third transfer wide receiver KU has added in the last four months, joining LaQuvionte Gonzalez (transferred from Texas A&M in April) and Quincy Perdue (left UAB for KU in June). Former South Carolina linebacker Marcquis Roberts was added as a transfer as well.

The Kansas City Star writes that Stanford “appears to be eligible to play right away,” although the school has not confirmed his status for the 2015 season. Counting this season, Stanford would have two seasons of eligibility remaining if the Star is correct.

Gonzalez and Roberts will have to sit out the 2015 season, while Perdue is eligible to play immediately.

Bo Scarbrough suspended for Alabamas first four games | CollegeFootballTalk
A knee injury could very well sideline Bo Scarbrough for the first portion of the 2015 season. If the injury doesn’t do it, though, his head coach will.

In addressing the media Thursday evening,Nick Saban revealed that Scarbrough will be suspended for the first four games of the upcoming season. The only reason given by Saban for the suspension is that it’s an “NCAA thing.”

Scarbrough sustained a significant knee injury during an April spring practice scrimmage and underwent surgery a short time later. He is currently participating in summer camp with his Tide teammates, and is officially ahead of schedule in his rehab, although he’s one of those in non-contact mode.

LSU losing an offensive lineman to transfer | CollegeFootballTalk
The university has confirmed that Jonah Austin (pictured, No. 71) has decided to take his leave of the football program and transfer to an undetermined location. No reason for the decision to leave was given, although a search for a better opportunity at playing time would be a good place to start.

If Austin were to end up at another FBS institution, he’d be eligible to play in 2015 as a graduate transfer.

BB-gun arrest nets Sun Devil signee a season-long suspension | CollegeFootballTalk
ASU head coach Todd Graham confirmed Wednesday that George Lea will be suspended for the entire 2015 season because of an off-field incident back in June. The defensive lineman had initially been indefinitely suspended by Graham.

Lea is alleged to have used a BB-gun to intimidate one of his Sun Devil teammates. He was arrested and faced three preliminary charges that were all felonies, although he was formally charged with a pair of misdemeanors — threatening/intimidating to cause injury and assault with the intent to cause fear of physical injury.

Jamaal Williams withdrawing from BYU, plans to be back in 2016 | CollegeFootballTalk
BYU announced Thursday afternoon that star running back Jamaal Williams has withdrawn from school for what was only described as “personal reasons.” Right now the plan is for Williams to redshirt the 2015 season, then return for the 2016 season, head coach Bronco Mendenhallstated.

The announcement is the most recent down-tick in a career that’s seen its share of highs (mostly) and lows (some).

Williams has led the Cougars in rushing each of the last three years, totaling 2,526 yards and 23 touchdowns in that span. He’s added 53 receptions coming out of the backfield.

Jayhawks lose two linemen, including one likely starter | CollegeFootballTalk
And just like that, an already-thin offensive line at Kansas has been further depleted.

Wednesday, first-year head coach David Beaty announced that a pair of sophomore linemen, Joey Bloomfield and Junior Visinia, are no longer playing members of his Jayhawk football program. Bloomfield has decided to retire from the sport of football but will remain with the program in an unspecified capacity, while the reason or reasons for Visinia’s departure are not known.

The departure of the latter, though, could be the most costly.

Beavers dismiss LB suspended for all of 2014 | CollegeFootballTalk
University officials have confirmed that Songy has been dismissed from the football team and will not play for the Beavers this coming season. The Oregonian reported that Songy failed three drug tests leading up to the 2014 season, which led to his suspension; the linebacker not fulfilling “additional behavior requirements” stemming from those failed drug tests led to his dismissal, a source told the paper’s Gina Mizell.

The junior college route is likely the next step for Songy, although a return to Corvallis after serving his lower-level penance wouldn’t be in the cards.
