if the defense has stepped up enough to make it say a 12th rated defense , then we should be fine . if not then how much RG3 improves probably wont matter as much as far as contending

we have improved the special teams i believe with the questions being can malone punt consistantly and can hocker be accurate enough on Fgs to be kept

one thing we should be better at is tackling both on teams and at LB . if the secondary improves there then what a boost that could be

I agree with you Dad, the three key areas that need to be improved as compared to last year are:

Special Teams - that should be taken care of simply by having the cap penalty lifted which allowed the team to go out and get guys who are good special teams players.

Defense - another slow start last year. They improved some but not enough. Replacing Fletcher will help a lot, loved him as a player but he had hit the end of the road. Hatcher should help, I like that Baker will be starting. Amerson should get better and hopefully Thomas will be healthy at safety.

Robert Griffin - we all know he had times when he struggled last year. I think being able to work this off season and be more healthy will help a lot. Having DJax won't hurt either.

Every team lives and dies by their QB play and we are no different. But RG3 can play well and we can still suck if we don't fix our issues on D and STs. I expect RG3 to rebound and have a good year, but probably still have some learning curve to overcome in reading NFL defenses. He has all the weapons he needs. I also think we will fix many of the issues on STs (there is no way we can be worse). Defense is still a question mark as long as Haslett is calling the scheme. We will see if Shanahan was meddling or not. Just won't know more until we get into training camp and some of the latter preseason games.

RG3 is contagious. If he does well, we excel and all facets of the game improve.

Yes, other parts matter but the success of the season falls squarely on his shoulders. This is also a season where we learn about his future expense.

I guess I'll have to trust in Kotwica then. Won't be hard for any punting to be better than last year. Just surprised to not see more focus on this spot.
