Looks like Gary could still play.

I was always a Joe Mullen fan as well and I think Pens fans liked his play while he was in Pittsburgh.

Mullen was great in Pittsburgh. If I remember correctly in his 5 seasons he put up 150+ goals and won two more Cups.
And to think all they gave up was a 2nd round pick.

I didn't realize Brad McCrimmon died in the Lokomotiv crash :(

Yeah, along with former Canuck Pavol Demitra. Demitra was a heck of a player (Sarge was a rock solid defenseman).

I remember Demtira being part of that... I'm always liked Brad back then

Pat Quinn was a great hockey man and fine person. It's a shame how the Oilers treated him when he was there, not even the brilliance of Quinn could overcome the ineptitude of Lowe and Mactavish.

30 years ago today, the Pittsburgh Penguins drafted Jaromir Jagr with the fifth overall selection in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver. The New Jersey Devils selected Martin Brodeur 20th overall.

The Isles pick was the buzzkill in that first round.

The Flames selected Trevor Kidd leaving Brodeur for the Devils - Yeesh :L

Petr Bondra in the 8th round was one of the best late round steals in draft history. Man built a franchise.

Mike Ricci over Jagr pretty much giving 2 cups to Pittsburgh. Good jorb Clarkie. GRIT

i think 90-91 was the last year i hard core collected hockey cards. Those score draft day rookie cards were a tragic masterpiece. I always remember back then seeing the scott scissons card and thinking hed never make it lol. Marty brodeur looked like he ate all the pies but i gave him a pass cause what the hell ... fat goalie !!! :noidea:

I've been looking around at that draft and the stories... The Flames and Devils swapped these picks. NJ had 11, and traded with Calgary so Calgary could do this. NJ picked up two second rounders in the swap.

Ooof. Talk about wanting a do-over...

In that 1990 first-round outside of Jagr, six other players suited up for the Penguins for a total 411 games played and scoring 110 goals (78 from Nedved alone).
Interesting thing one of those players suited up for the Penguins two different stints (total of 3 seasons and played 52 games) but between season 2 and 3 they were 9 years apart. Does anyone know who?
Another interesting thing the first time this player arrived in Pittsburgh he was traded from the same team he was dealt to during this 3rd season (second stint).

That sounds like it might be Leafs draft pick Drake Berehowsky?
