On this day in 1980, Denis Potvin scored (with one second remaining in a power play) at 4:07 of overtime to give the Islanders a 4-3 win over the Flyers in Game One of the 1980 Stanley Cup Finals. It was the first OT power play goal in Stanley Cup Finals' history.

Luongo's first payoff game, 76 shots and the win


imagine, Turco got three shutouts in the series and lost.

I was at game 7, because a friend was too nervous to go to a game 7, so sold his tickets. Got absolutely fucking hammered, because all of the games had gone deep into overtime and it was 1-1 after two periods, so we completely loaded up on beer before they stopped serving midway through the 3rd period.
I mean completely loaded up....
Linden scored the go-ahead goal 7 minutes into the 3rd, but we still just knew it was going to OT.
empty net goal #1 it was time to chug. empty net goal # 2 confirmed it.
the mistake was finishing all of those beers while the arena emptied out and then stopping in Yaletown for a schnitzel sandwich and another pitcher (mattola knows exactly which bar).
Ended up not making it to bed, sleeping on the floor in the hallway between the bedroom and bathroom. My wife asking if I was ok. "carpet soft, sleep now, night night"

I miss living within walking distance of the arenas.
