So why the hell can't Canada win a Cup? It's been 30 years now. They've made up roughly a quarter of the league in that span. A statistical analysis (below) finds the odds of Canada having zero cups in this span is only 0.7%.

I'm just curious if you all have any theories you have read or come up with that are plausible because it makes no sense.

And while I know some of you all root against your team's rivals in your country (get it), it would be really nice to see a Canadian franchise (ANY of them) win a Cup in the next few years.

I briefly heard Jeff Marek talk about the regenerative benefits for NHL players playing in warmer climates ... I think he has Chris Johnston up next on his show talking about the earth shattering nature of crypto

In my opinion, I think the major problem has been mediocre GM's in Canadian markets over the last 30 years. There certainly is the pressure of having a competitive team each and every season, but the majority of fans realize that you need to have a realistic view of your team's chances and make the tough decisions in cutting loose top players in order to acquire draft picks/young prospects.

Being able to weaponize cap space is something that GM's in Canadian markets seem to have trouble doing as well.

Shitty ownership groups that take the fans for granted. And no Canadian team will win another one until they get rid of these woke PM’s they’ve had for the last few decades. And bring back Don Cherry too.

Get rid of Ron MacLean while we're at it.

On the last Canadian team to win - who led the team in regular season scoring and playoff scoring? Where is that player not, that Peter Karmanos Jr., Paul Kariya, and Guy Carbonneau are?

All kidding aside, when 14.2% of the population is the Leafs AND THEY DEFY ALL MATHEMATICAL PROBABILITIES, then I think you have most of your answer.

Vinny was a power play merchant in the 93 playoffs. But you are not wrong. My god Roy was untouchable then but he didn’t score goals.

answer 1: owners have reluctance to do a proper rebuild at the right time, to chase the lucrative extra two home playoff games.
This is more of a factor for Canadian teams as their expenses are in US$, and revenue in $C
Also, key free agents to fill out the roster are at a tax disadvantaged to come to Canadian markers versus several US ones.
The stars that are drafted to Canadian teams are one thing, but it's those key support pieces that you can get the extra bang for the buck in some markets (TB).

answer 2: Canada is a socialist society, so we like to give to others. sorry, eh.

answer 3: Because colin campbell is a fucking criminal, and bettman can fuck off too.

What a coincidence. I recentley did an interwebz search on the last Canadian NHL team to win the Stanley cup last week. I found this tidbit:

"The year 1993 was the 100th anniversary of the first awarding of the Stanley Cup in 1893, and the first Finals to start in the month of June. To date, the 1993 Canadiens are the last Stanley Cup championship team to be composed solely of North American-born players, and the last Canadian team to win the Stanley Cup."

In order to win again, Canadian NHL teams need to ditch all their overseas players, stop playing hockey in the late Spring/early Summer, and quit electing female/feminine prime ministers.

Nobody has yet posited that Auston Matthews blinding fashion sense has caused vision issues for fellow Canadian teams. Based on geographic proximity, would explain Buffalo's struggles as well.

The other thing I will add is that the fact that a Canadian based team hasn't won the Cup in 30 years is more a talking point to generate clicks and foster discussion than it is a sore point for Canadian hockey fans (in my opinion). Some people seem to think as soon as your team is eliminated/doesn't make the playoffs, you should root for a Canadian team. That is a bunch of malarkey (thanks Biden!). I'm a Flames fan and I'm never going to cheer for the Oilers. I mean, does a Man City fan cheer for United? Does an Everton fan cheer for Liverpool?
