Word on the street is that Beck took over a lot of OL coaching duties after the TM fiasco ..

Appatently we need 3 OL coaches :L

well whatever he is doing is working, so let him keep it up.

starting to sound like Barney might be on his way out after this season? maybe he will "retire"....

I was just watching the Northwestern game on BTN a little while ago.........and let me tell you, all I could see was rust falling off all over the field on Offense.....

Dude is more of a negative than a positive.... his biggest positive is a senior

Hundley passed the ball around to 9 different rcvrs last weekend. He's a bigger target than Alford was so hopefully not as elusive. He's a true dual threat rated #3 as a five star.

I think to make them 'one dimensional' NU will need to take away the run.

Speaking of taking away the running game from an opponent, am I wrong to ask why Pelini doesn't seem to adhere to this age old tactic of making a team one dimensional by stuffing the run first?

A lot of people including myself thought ole Barn was a bad hire to begin with.

I don't know that he doesn't adhere to it or that he can. You gotta have the horses or at least that one special player (Suh). CFB is cyclical. It's a different game than it was with the Fun and Gun, and the true Spread Passing offenses. They are dead. You don't see Spurrier playing Fun and Gun anymore, he learned a lot from that Fiesta smackdown. In whatever type they are, offenses emphasize the run element again so it's executed better.

I noted Pelini 'taking control' w/ the defensive players (when they came off the field during timeouts) last weekend. Papuchis was almost an observer at times.

Hopefully Beck can run things on his own now, and Pelini can get this defense up to the expectations we all had when he was hired. If the offense can maintain what we saw against USM, the defense won't have to be stellar, just 'servicable'. The 83' defense was quite average actually.

While our DL may be playing the part of the 2 Gap just as it's intended, we may no longer have the LB's, plural, to play their respective roles in the scheme. We had trouble last year with only 1 David at level 2. Hard to assess from 1 game, but the trends from last season are still prevalent.
Having the horses at DT is a huge plus, such as a Suh or Wilfork, it's not hard to imagine how or why Crick tore a pectoral muscle playing the 2 gap. We recruited Peat to be that guy and he has yet to play a single snap.
I'm not going to pretend I know all about the intricacies of the 4-3 scheme, but if it's not working to shut down the run, then why not experiment with some different sets or personnel, like, not limited to, the run around thing they tried against MSU. Again, this is not strictly based on just our Dline. All this clinched buttcheeckyness may all be for nothing if we come out and stuff UCLA and shut down the run.

I'm in hopes it's just more "bend but don't break" stuff until the right personel rise to blackshirt level. USM's offense only put 13 pts on them, but converted many 3rd downs (some long) to stay on the field.

Not to mention the number of times USM shot themselves in the foot with dropped balls en sech.

If the theory is to let them run wild up and down the field, but then hopefully stop them right before they intend on scoring a touchdown, then I will say that I do not like that theory. No sir, not at all.

No argument here.

I believe the theory is that they'll eventually shoot themselves in the foot w/ (turnover/penalty/downs/FG). :noidea:

Pelini tossed it out there when he took over in 08' if I remember right. But shit, NU's 5 years into this project now.
