I do realize you never know what's gonna happen with players in the NHL. Still I just get the feeling 2 years without a gold isn't going to be accepted by the hockey brass in Canada. I think a lot of it will depend on which players make their NHL teams next season, but it wouldn't shock me to see a couple of the underage players in the NHL next season get waivers to play for the World Junior team.

Hockey Canada cannot control the whims of NHL GMs. Duchene could have played last year. He could have played this year. This year it was obvious that he was a dominant NHL player. Last year he wasn't and may have benefited from playing in the WJHC, but the AVs weren't about to risk an injury in a junior tournament.

More than any country this is what Canada has to deal with.

I'd like to see the next CBA say that all junior age players from all countries are released to play in the WJHC, but I don't see it happening.

I would think that a lot of the GM's (the Canadian ones anyway) still have enough pride to want to bring the WJ gold back to Canada. We'll see though, who knows what's gonna happen between now and next December. The lead up to the tournament will be very interesting.

Seems like a lot of Canadian sour grapes in this thread. Canada didnt lose because of all their "talent" being in the NHL they lost because they choked.

Wow, I just watched the highlights on NHL.com, you can blame the Canada goalie for like 2 of those goals in the third, what a defensive meltdown by Canada in the third.

it was fucking silent after those last couple of goals by the russians, crowd was stunned, I was stunned. By the way Canada played in the first 2 periods, one would think the game was already theirs. The boys looked so sick getting their silver medals..

I watched part of the end of the second and saw footage later that made it looked like Canada won. I almost posted "Congrats Canada" here last night, and it would have really looked like I was being a jerk. I honestly didnt see the score until just now.

I didn't see any sour grapes. Everyone congratulated the Ruskies, admitted that Canada choked/mailed it in/fucked up, and said good game. Kenny and Destroy talked briefly about what could have been if Tavares, Seguin, Skinner, etc were in the tourney and let's be honest; these guys are great NHL players, they probably would have helped the team. But I didn't hear any excuses.

You must be reading a different thread if you think there's any sour grapes in here.
