deny and deflect mode engaged ... dont look at my piece of shit team ... look at my belief (or lack of it) in advanced statistics use in hockey

why did Burke go to the 6th annual MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference if he doesnt believe in it???

Burke doubts stats guys like Schuckers. "Have a parade, then call me."

Peter Chiarelli believes in/uses advanced stats. Brian Burke doesn't. They both have same amount of money to spend on players. Says it all.

there is no stat to adequately measure truculence.

Leafs are about to tie a record for the longest playoff drought by a CDN team though (7 years)
that's pretty measurable.

You should make use of any and all tools at your disposal - I still think the best stat is the "eyeball test", but to just dismiss statistics like Burkie apparently is doing is crazy.

/Flames brought on this guy (John Weisbrod) who was formerly with the Bruins as director of collegiate scouting. He also is a big "Moneypuck" guy. This never would have happened with Sutter at the helm.

tell him to go watch Moneyball, and see how another B.B.(Billy Beane)built a contender using stats.

Everybody is looking for these ‘Moneyball’ breakthroughs. … I have yet to see anything that has value in terms of an alternative way of evaluating players.”

“This whole ‘Moneyball’ thing aggravates me anyway. … Nobody has ever won a championship with Moneyball,” Burke said.

Hmm… Didn’t the Red Sox use a huge amount of stat analysis? Didn’t the Dallas Mavericks?

not so sure. he's a master at deflecting attention. guy knows how to bring it all to him and make him look like an ass. in Media he is the biggest asshat on the planet. away from camera and microphone guy is pretty cool to talk to

in this case though I don't see how he can succeed in Toronto without tanking and starting over.

Phil Kessel - 32 G - 68 Pts
Tyler Sequin - 21 G - 50 Pts

I think I would rather build around tyler.

Kessel may be doing well in Toronto, but Bruins play a more spread out game rather than constantly feeding the puck to the same person. I really like where Seguins game is going as far as his compete level and his tenacity for getting the puck and moving through neutral ice... I would rather build a team around him as well. Thanks Burke.

Dougie Hamilton looks like he's going to be a very good NHL defenseman down the road. Bruins made out like bandits.

he could score 50 but I think Seguin is going to be a Steve Yzerman type leader that you can actually build around. that was a stupid trade by Burke but it pretty much helped Boston win the cup. do you think that would have happened last year with Kessel on the roster?

Nope. I forget the series... TB? Seguin single handedly turned that shit around. There were stars for each series. Horton was the man in Montreal. Krejci was the guy for Philly. And Seguin was the man to answer the toll in the TB series.

As a Bruins fan I adore brian Burke.

I think he is super smart and hope he continues to do the same things he has done.

Okay so the Leafs haven't made the playoffs in 7 years. The Panthers haven't made it in 10. The pressure in Toronto is obviously much greater. If the playoff drought in Toronto were to reach a decade how do you think Leafs fans will respond?
