I don't fancy myself a brilliant writer, but I could, again, come up with a million ways for Carl to "almost succeed" yet fail (Dude, I get that Negan cannot die there. That isn't what I'm saying.)... And while yes, I'm sure a jamming gun would have brought some rolling eyes, it would have been NOTHING like the, Getting all the way there, grabbing loaded assault rifle, blowing away a couple of Negan's men, Negan stepping RIGHT OUT IN FRONT OF HIM (Ya know, the guy who he witnessed bashing in the heads of Abe and Glenn), pointing the gun at him, and then........

......nothing.

C'mon chf. I know you are in the business of defending every fuggin' thing writers do and chalking it up to, "We fanboys just don't get the complicated nuance of it all and how to suspend disbelief and how we need to allow for the limitations of budget and occasional shoddy special effects and blah blah blah.", but this is just poor, poor, poor and lazy writing that could EASILY have been done any other number of ways.

This time you really can't cover for them man... Sorry.

So yeah, I basically have to write it in my own head as, "Okay, NO WAY in fucking hell does Carl not kill Negan there. So I'll just pretend that that all went down just a bit different and move on.".

At no other time in this entire series have I had to go to that type of "suspension of disbelief". Yes, even the falling van.

So write away. Let's hear it.

And screw you with the 'yeah you guys don't get it, because you're just not smaaaaart enough like I am,' narrative. With all due respect.

I've got my perspective, and it has nothing to do with you being an idiot. Or me being brilliant.

I'm sorry, that's not in the budget. It's only a television program, after all.

Also, did I mention that this season sucks balls, Negan's a shitty character and Jeffery Dean Morgan might be a less talented actor than the guy who plays Token on Fear The Walking Dead?

Here's a question that might spark a pretty interesting debate: When, exactly, do you think the show jumped that shark?

I don't think there's much of an argument that it hasn't made the leap.

Let me start by saying that I like your perspective, BUT...

...Sorry, just been reading that from you since we participated in the same TWD threads back on KFFL and it ALWAYS comes across to me like, "You guys just don't get it...", whether it be suspension of disbelief, limited budget, etc... I think maybe you get unintentionally condescending at times and don't know it? (The "You guys just don't get it." is implied.) Or maybe you don't get that many of us DO understand these limitations and understand suspension of disbelief, etc... Heck dude, I was okay letting the truck off the bridge thing go, for instance, but that wasn't a simple matter of just crossing out one dumb line/occurrence in the script and adding something else (ANYTHING else) that is more believable.

All I'm saying is that you ALWAYS play devil's advocate for the writers. And you can be a dick and ask me to "write away" or what have you, but hell, YOU already came up with a better solution than Carl simply not doing it... Sure, gun-jamming is cliche, but its more plausible than just not doing it... OR he could run out of ammo... OR maybe the guy getting in the truck stops him before he gets the gun in the first place... OR maybe since Carl alerts the entire compound to his presence by shooting a couple of guys, he gets off the truck to go find Negan (who doesn't strut out and present a target) and gets caught before he finds him... OR he jumps off the truck before it enters the compound too far out in front of Jesus and gets caught by a guard... OR maybe the first guy he shot isn't dead and pushes Carl off the tail gate of the truck and the Saviors nab him...

OR...

OR...

OR...

OR...

Really dude, it ain't that hard to figure out any multitude of ways for Carl to fail, Negan to live, and Carl to become his prisoner that are easier to believe than what they gave us.

I'm admittedly not nearly as knowledgeable as you folks in regards to the show or it's seasons. I'm not even sure what happened in which season, but I can tell you the season where there was that big canyon full of walkers was the one where I would find myself wishing episodes would end so that I could do something else.

I'm not saying all the episodes have been shitty since - there have been some really good ones - but it seems to me they're getting fewer and further between.

The good episodes are now like the good golf shot that keeps you playing after a couple dozen shitty ones.

Not 100% sure I get the question, but...

I personally haven't had MAJOR issues with this season? Though I agree that this format of focusing on someone different for entire episodes is getting tired. This is like the third time or so that the group has been split up now? Seems like a bit of lather, rinse, repeat...

And for my part I do buy JDM's Negan. I wonder if he just fails to live up to the comic reader's expectations? Not sure.

Didn't care for the Tara episode. Felt like they wasted my time mostly on that one...

Really? I've never seen him mention a limited budged.

Another board, another era... Not honestly even sure the mention of that backs my point because I agreed with him on that one because I think that was with regard to the van falling off the bridge, but...

And honestly usually I do agree with chf, but since I don't feel the need to say, "Yeah, what he said." it might seem like I always disagree? ;)

If we want to bring it back home and JUST focus on the "Time and Space" comment and how that relates to Carl's plan working out like a one in a million shot and then he doesn't pull the trigger? We can just go there. Otherwise, we could go on forever....

Bingo. If they're going to focus an entire episode on a post apocalyptic lesbian, she better be hot, and she better spend a lot of time scissoring other hot lesbians.

Along those lines, here's another topic that might spark an interesting debate: do you think the broads in a zombified world would be shaving their growlers?

I mean, plenty of guys in the show don't have beards, so they must have some effective means of hair removal. I'd think the honies would want to at least shave their legs and armpits, so it's not to much of a stretch to think they'd want to take their shag carpet down to the hardwood, or at least a nicely contained berber or something.

What do you guys think?

I was just being fatuous. Seems like every other post of his is about "they can't do that on TV, it's way too expensive."

For example, he explained to me that there is no way that tiger in Episode 2 would be in the show because it'd be way too expensive for TV.

Yeah this right here; pretty much all shows jump the shark at some point, it doesn't mean the show completely sucks.

I'm just wondering where everyone thinks this show did, and the canyon scene is not a bad one.

Hard for me to say because I'm still a fan, even though the head-scratching moments and disappointing moments are becoming a bit more frequent.

I think my first moment like this was Carol/Rambo and the lightning fast resolution to the whole Terminus thing?

Again, forgivable... But...

So, no takers on a discussion regarding the grooming habits of post-apocalyptic beavers, huh?

I'll just say that I would probably be better with getting a face full of one of the women in Alexandria than one of the ones on the road. Not sure it matters which one we're talking about... ;)

Sunday's episode was probably the best of the season, and it wasn't great. Overall, pretty lack luster season as a whole so far, and I read the ratings are reflecting that.

Personally, I think the show got the shark-jumping out of the way when the Gov. (still my favorite villain on the show) pitted Daryl and Merle against each other in the "Fight to the Death".

If one of them had killed each other, it could've been a real "Holy Shit!" moment. Merle's death down the road really didn't seem to have any impact, imo.
