Here's a question that might spark a pretty interesting debate: When, exactly, do you think the show jumped that shark?

I don't think there's much of an argument that it hasn't made the leap.
I am not certain that it has jumped just yet, but assuming it has, it was either the Glenn-fakeout or the RV cliffhanger that was dropped. Those broke a trust that the writers had with fans that is hard to get back.

So, no takers on a discussion regarding the grooming habits of post-apocalyptic beavers, huh?

This much I know. I HATE Neegan's knee-bend, back-arch deal he does when he talks. HATE IT.

It is so awful. Just stop. PLEASE!!

Let me start by saying that I like your perspective, BUT...

...Sorry, just been reading that from you since we participated in the same TWD threads back on KFFL and it ALWAYS comes across to me like, "You guys just don't get it...", whether it be suspension of disbelief, limited budget, etc... I think maybe you get unintentionally condescending at times and don't know it? (The "You guys just don't get it." is implied.) Or maybe you don't get that many of us DO understand these limitations and understand suspension of disbelief, etc... Heck dude, I was okay letting the truck off the bridge thing go, for instance, but that wasn't a simple matter of just crossing out one dumb line/occurrence in the script and adding something else (ANYTHING else) that is more believable.

All I'm saying is that you ALWAYS play devil's advocate for the writers. And you can be a dick and ask me to "write away" or what have you, but hell, YOU already came up with a better solution than Carl simply not doing it... Sure, gun-jamming is cliche, but its more plausible than just not doing it... OR he could run out of ammo... OR maybe the guy getting in the truck stops him before he gets the gun in the first place... OR maybe since Carl alerts the entire compound to his presence by shooting a couple of guys, he gets off the truck to go find Negan (who doesn't strut out and present a target) and gets caught before he finds him... OR he jumps off the truck before it enters the compound too far out in front of Jesus and gets caught by a guard... OR maybe the first guy he shot isn't dead and pushes Carl off the tail gate of the truck and the Saviors nab him...

OR...

OR...

OR...

OR...

Really dude, it ain't that hard to figure out any multitude of ways for Carl to fail, Negan to live, and Carl to become his prisoner that are easier to believe than what they gave us.

Yeah, I'm aware that my 'tone' gets taken as condescending, as I've been posting for a while now - but it's not because I'm TRYING to be an asshat or ... you know... actually condescending.

That's just... me. <shrug> I years ago gave up lying awake nights worrying about whether people take me wrong. (that way lies madness). So I just deal with flare-ups when they happen, and let the chips fall where they may.

I actually agree with your POV more than I disagree with it, but I'm not going to be shy about communicating where I disagree.

And where I disagree with you here, is in in the 'critic' nature of putting your stuff out there. People can ALWAYS find stuff wrong with anything. (You ever watch 'Everything wrong with X in Y minutes?' on youtube? Perfect example. They can eviscerate ANYTHING, even movies that are generally regarded as top notch.

So let's use your list (which is why I asked for examples)

Carl is a survivor, who has been taught by Rick how to survive. So, him running out of ammo wouldn't fly. What, he didn't check the clip? People would rip that to shreds.

He's not going to leave the truck OR shoot up the compound, because that's exactly the point, he wouldn't DO his stupid suicide mission if he actually stopped to think about all the ways it could go wrong. He has to hope that Neegan shows up, and through surprise, he wastes him.

The reason that he can't get caught entering, is because again, they have to move the story along. He has to IMPRESS Neegan with his bravado (or else Neegan would just waste him), and the only way he can do that is by ALMOST killing him. Dramatic scene ensues. Plot moves along, to Neegan holding sis, while Rick shows up.

'First guy isn't dead'... same problem as the out of ammo. Carl is supposed to be the brash hero who reminds Neegan of himself. Not wasting one of the guys he shoots - he's a loser who Neegan doesnt' even waste a swing of Lucille on.

Carl isn't even the memorable lasting impression of that episode. That's Neegan holding baby sis and wondering about burying Dad and bro with the petunias.

What I always come back to is the idea that the writers/producers get rope with me. They've got a bunch ofballs in the air, and keep most of them aloft. The show is a good solid show.

When people lose their minds about the van... or something inconsequential... I just don't get it.

It's nitpicky.

If the show sucks, quit watching it. If it doesn't, take the odd mis-step in line, and keep enjoying most of it.
Or not. :)
