I'm just bored today and watching the Reds going for their 9th in a row. But I was wondering, Has anyone even come close to hitting that sign out there? It would have to be over 500 feet.

No one has came close to hitting the Tundra. They did put another sign a little closer, but I haven't seen anyone hit it either.

They used to give the truck away on Fan Appreciation day to a local fire department.

The sign itself is reachable. For the odds of not hitting it, consult your latest asteroid preparedness manual.

I always thought Adam Dunn had a shot at it.

The sign is 430 feet from home plate, the truck is over 500. When you add in the height of where it sits it's probably closer to 550 feet to hit the truck. I think there has only been two balls ever hit over 500 feet at GABP......so as John points out the odds are pretty slim.

It's not like the free suit sign across the street from Crosley. The sign was bigger, still a good poke, but players like Wally Post had a closet full of suits.

I think it is more of an advertisement than anything else. If players for some reason would start hitting it more frequently. I believe it would miraculously disappear.

Definitely about the advertising. During All Star week they took down the truck and replaced the advertising with Chevrolet.

They even went as far as to cover up the WLW sign below the radio booth even though the booth was unoccupied. When sponsors are paying the amount of money it takes to advertise these days they take it pretty serious.

I bet advertisers weren't happy at the old ballparks like Crosley where you'd see Coke ads inside and Pepsi on the billboards across the street.

They did this at the NCAA finals, as I recall. There was a company with its name on the cupholders at Lucas Oil (can't recall the company) and since they weren't advertising the NCAA's they had somebody go around the stadium and literally put tape over the name. I mean ... no shit.

Gold Star Chili advertises on the Reds games, but Skyline is sold at the park. Lots of odd in ads. Teams don't care, like politicians, they'll take anyone's money.

Id say LaRosa's have chipped in lots of dough (literally and figuratively) on their free small pizza for 11K's by Reds pitchers so far. Although I've had the "freebie" several tones, I never just took the freebie- always had a much bigger order in addition to the free small 2 toppings they give away. I think that's what they figure will happen usually. If they trade AC, they might not have as many 11K games next year.
