"The last time an owner of St. Louis Spirits received $500 million was 2009, when the Cardinals paid off Tony La Russa's bar tab."

Funny quote down below the article.

Probably the best sports related transaction ever. That 30 for 30 was awesome & pretty amazing that it was done about a team that only played in St Louis for 2 years. So many great side stories including the one-of-a-kind Marvin Barnes, the first announcing job for a young Bob Costas & the fact that the Kentucky owner who took the $3M from the NBA deal wound up being the owner of both the Braves (now the Clippers) & the Celtics for a brief time as well as the governor of Kentucky.

The ABA certainly has some amazing stories.

Got a book about the ABA, planning on reading it soon. As to St.Louis if the NBA ever expands St.Louis should get a team.

Was never a fan of the red, white and blue ball, but it was a fun league to watch.
Hell, I never saw a basketball game til Magic was in it - I graduated in 1978 and started watching shortly after - In my high school and college years - I was an engineering major and had no time for luxuries like tv and games.
Now the depressing part is that was 38 years ago closing in on 40 and damn it - I'm getting older - that's depressing:mad2:

No mention of the ABA is complete without a shout out to Semi-Pro and Jackie Moon
