For gits and shiggles, here's a thread that lists all the good things the Shannys did for the redskins. Feel free to add, if you can....

- drafted Alfred Morris
- drafted Jordan Reed
- signed Pierre Garcon
- drafted Ryan Kerrigan
- drafted Trent Williams
- drafted RG3, who had a miraculous rookie season
- resigned London Fletcher (the FIRST time)
- got rid of Haynesworth for a draft pick
- got rid of McNabb for a draft pick
- signed Barry Cofield
- actually tried to draft for need (Compton, Gettis, Ribeye for Oline, thomas, rambo, amerson for secondary)
- valued draft picks to some degree, instead of signing high priced free agency
- instilled order and discipline to redskins park pre Seahawks playoff game
- won a division title
- developed a new mix of offense - "East Coast" Offense built on read option, zone running, play action

I would have kept him one more year. I am very disappointed. I am waiting to see how this all shakes out but I may abandon my affiliations with the team after 25 years of being a fan and 20 years of season tickets. I am very close. It is like a bad marriage where she hurt you so bad you are willing to be unhappy but gain some solace in hoping that they fail for screwing you over so bad lol.

Maybe this will help you a bit Blunt8384, It is very likely that Mike Shanahan would have asked for an extension, if your wish had become reality. He most likely would suggest that in keeping him the front office was ok with the direction he's taking and he would need that extension in order to not have to operate in a lame duck type next season. All marriages are bad...the ones that survive are generously sprinkled with enough good times that gives us reason not to leave. It only hurts when emotion overcomes reason. Give them time..........winning (just like living well after actual marriage) is the curative salve not hoping that the vanquished fail. Hope it helps!!!

Definitely not a day to 'rejoice', to be sure. I think we're all in a little bit of mourning, so to speak. The promise of what could have been.. of what it might have developed into.. the siren call of seeing the right couch with the right players with broad smiles on their faces as they're carried off the field on the shoulders of their brethren.

Hang in there, man. I know it sucks. We all know.

I am conflicted, to be perfectly honest.

I think Shanahan is a weasel, has a massive, massive ego, and probably leaked the stories due to playing dirty. I think it's hard to trust a coach like that, and clearly he lost the team

On the other hand, I think that RG3 and The Danny are not innocent. That RG3 needs to grow up, and that The Danny is proof that you don't have to be intelligent with respect to managing the social dynamics of the workplace to be ridiculously wealthy.

I think Mike Shanahan has generally put the team in the right direction, but that his missteps were pretty fucking huge, especially since he either cannot or is incapable of accepting some of the responsibility/blame for those missteps.

He's a pretty onerous, repugnant person, in my opinion. The. Again, so is the owner.

Sigh. Onward...

Loving the Redskins has been a family tradition as long as I have been alive. My grandfather first had tickets at Griffith field before RFK.

When Snyder got into salary cap mess before he hired Shotenheimer for one year basically to clean it up for him. Then he re-hired Vinny Cerato and went right back to picking the players himself. He hires puppets to take the fall for his mistakes. He has done this as long as he owned the team with the exception of Shanahan and Shotenheimer. If Snyder had introduced Bill Polian as the head of our football ops/team president and said the buck stops with him, that would have been an excellent start to doing things the right way.

Cerato was on ESPN last month laughing, saying "did I actually have control of anything" oh I didn't know...then he said "hey that's what I was payed to do, take the blame".

I'm telling you right now, it looks like Allen will be the new Cerato.

Can't really argue with any of that.

Sad, really..:L:gaah::doh:

Didn't Shanny leave Denver with a potent offense and a porous defense?

I don't know. Probably.

Are the rams going to draft a qb, draft a lineman, or trade down?

Definitely left a porous defense, but the offense was closer to mediocre than potent, in my opinion.

This thread caught my attention, since I am an old Broncos fan and Shanahan is obviously the greatest coach that that franchise has ever had. My take -- and I admittedly know less than those who follow Washington closely -- is that Shanahan's biggest mistake was to keep playing RG3 when he was obviously hurt too badly to continue playing in the playoff loss last year. I have a lot of respect for what Shanny accomplished in Denver, but the decision to leave his QB in that game seems to me about the worst decision that I could imagine a coach making.

Trade down is the official response. I think QB is a wait and see based on how they look. I'm not convinced that there is another 'can't miss' franchise QB guy outside of Bridgewater

I don't think anyone could see Bruce Allen's knee pads on with him behind the podium. Bruce Allen is a good cap guy, he isn't a good talent evaluator.

I think two things happend, the situation became one that couldn't work any longer. I don't know that firing Shanahan was right or wrong but you weren't going to fire Griffin and Dan won't fire himself.

As I have said over and over again this is Dan's legacy. This is what he does, he hires big name coaches and big name players and then trashes them. He has made three guys with very good NFL pedigree look like a lot less the 2nd time around.

All we can do is sit and watch what happens and who gets hired but I am afraid I agree that Bruce might be Vinny Part Deaux.

LOL, imagine that. I keep saying there are three sides to this story. We'll see. I was a big fan of George Allen's and was happy to see Bruce here. I am just hoping he is not Dan's knew mouth piece but history says don't bet against that.

On the other hand I do agree, I think Allen will manage by committee and he and dare I say Dan will break all ties.

That is all we can do as fans is give him a chance. Like I said the Allen family is a huge part of the legacy of the Redskins so I want to believe it will work out.

i think brown , and campbell will find the players with the" team executive " a.j. smith being the guy overseeing it and allen will be the cap/frontman

Snyder probably wants a collaboration with him making the final decision. Even if AJ smith did get to make the final call, your talking about a guy that fired a 14 and 2 coach in Marty and decided to let Drew Breeze leave via free agency.

Yep there is no way in hell I perceive having AJ Smith as a good thing. How do you spell M O R O N? He let a winning coach go because he didn't like him and hired Norv. LMAO!!!! One thing for sure he and Snyder both sacked Schottenheimer. Step right up into the three ring circus.
