The Season So Far-week –Week 8

1st 4: Alabama, Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU

2nd 4: Clemson, Penn State, Notre Dame, Florida

3rd 4: Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, Utah

Analysis: The injury to Tua T puts an asterisk on Alabama’s rating. They won convincingly, so they stay on top. Penn State, though lethargic, moves up with Wisconsin’s shocking loss. The PAC is back in the playoff chase if one of the frontrunners fails to go undefeated.

Playoffs: Oklahoma, Ohio State, LSU, Clemson

Analysis: Clemson and Oklahoma still have the easiest schedules to run the table. Ohio State is looking very strong on both ends of the ball. Alabama and LSU should produce the SEC representative, but the winner of Georgia and Florida awaits. Notre Dame still has hope, but needs help. The PAC 12 could yet sneak a team in.

Most surprising: Minnesota, Baylor, SMU, Appalachian State

Analysis: All four are undefeated, and actually the first two could, though not likely, compete for the Natty. Minnesota is looking the strongest, but may have the toughest schedule. Baylor still has Texas and Oklahoma to play. SMU looks like a one loss team to me, but as to who is the question. Appalachian State, if things fall in place could well be the G-5 New Year’s representative.

Most disappointing: Arkansas, Tennessee, UCLA

Analysis: The list stays the same. The top-heavy SEC is killing Arkansas and Tennessee. Every week is another meat grinder. UCLA is a disappointment in a not that strong PAC 12

Heisman Trophy: Jalin Hurts, Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Fields

Analysis: Tua T drops to third because of his injury. He was doing great until the injury. Jaylin Hurts and Joe Burrow are neck and neck with Justin Fields not that far behind. If Tua is not back by the LSU game, he’ll likely be eliminated if Alabama loses. The winner is still up for grabs. What is needed is that 4th Quarter drive with the game on the line. So far that hasn’t happened.

Big 3 Games of the Week: Wisconsin-Ohio State, Auburn-LSU, Notre Dame-Michigan

Analysis: 3 blockbuster games to help clear up the playoff picture. Wisky would have to beat Ohio State and win the Big 10 title to have a chance to make the playoffs. I can’t see that happening at Columbus with the Buckeyes winning 27-17. Auburn with one loss is out if they lose to LSU. LSU would have to win out if they lose. Again, the homefield advantage will triumph with LSU winning 27-16. Notre Dame has only a slim chance to make the playoffs. Michigan seems to have improved from early season woes, though the offense leaves much to be desired. Michigan is favored, but I like ND in a very close one, 17-16.

Big games in the regular season: Clemson-South Carolina, SMU-Memphis, Minnesota-Penn State, Penn State-Ohio State, Baylor-Oklahoma, Arizona State-Oregon, Utah-Washington, LSU-Alabama, Alabama-Auburn, Georgia-Auburn, Florida-Georgia, Appalachian State-South Carolina.

Analysis: Some of these games will determine the G-5 representative. Alabama and LSU is the biggest remaining game and the winner should take the SEC. Either Oklahoma, Ohio State, or Clemson would have to lose. Florida and Georgia look like a worthy opponent for the Alabama-LSU winner.
