He left on less than good terms. His contract was up. He wanted to see what offers he received before making the decision. JD was less than pleased about that and went in a different direction.

I guess Maddux viewed it as the Rangers had the opportunity to extend him before his contract was up so he had the right to look around. JD obviously disagreed.

Of course, there is nothing to say that Maddux would ever want to coach again or even manage.

I always assumed he was here because his brother was, and when Mike left, Greg saw no reason to stick around. Didn't realize there was tension with JD about it.

I definitely remember Mike leaving under less than pleasant terms, and thinking the FO was idiotic for letting him leave.
