The current 2022 Draft Standings:

1. ARI 35-78 (.310), 3-7 in last 10, Current Streak: two losses
2. BAL 38-72 (.345), 3-7 in last 10, Current Streak: five losses
3. TEX 39-73 (.348), 3-7 in last 10, Current Streak: six losses
4. PIT 41-71 (.366), 3-7 in last 10, Current Streak: five losses

Amazingly, the standings have not changed in 10 games because all 4 teams went 3-7. All teams are on a losing streak as you can see. The Rangers have exactly 50 games to go in 2021. Their current winning % works out to a 17-33 record, which would put them at 56-106 for the year. That would tie the franchise record for the worst record in a 162 game season from what I can tell.
That is a really bad group of teams.

Gray, Conforto, Syndergaard and Story are the only ones I'd be interested in... and mostly just the pitchers

My approach to acquiring pitching would be to go after a rental or short term ace when the time comes, like we did with Cliff Lee.

If you think you have found the next Lance Lynn or the next Colby Lewis then that is fine, but I don't think I would risk big money on the possibility of a Tommy John injury.

I agree with this philosophy, but in today's market it's far easier to do via trade.

Can you point us to rental or short-term ACE available this next off-season

I am so tired of wasted time and money this team waste on rentals and so forth.

I think he's saying don't waste money on FA pitchers.

I think the point he's making is that. no one really knew what Lance Lynn was going to do, he wasn't considered an ace when we acquired him, or Colby Lewis, who provided excellent value, if not an ace... but were solid gets FA wise, and not overpays or way too long of a commitment (Gibson is in the same boat for at least one year he was here, Minor too), those are the guys to gamble on... plus they worked out

Also he said he would trade for aces, and that generally happens in season, not in the offseason, and is added as the extra piece to a playoff contender

There aren't really any aces available this offseason, you might think Syndergaard COULD be, but he's coming back from TJ surgery and nothing is guaranteed with him

It wouldn't matter because we don't need a rental at this point.

Cliff Lee was not a waste of time or money.

Free agency "gambles," mid-season trades, or develop your own, that's the way to do starting pitching

Every team takes flyers on guys at some point, whether it be their ace or otherwise

If they work out, you use them if you're in playoff run or trade them if you're not, simple as that

The Rangers issue has been an over-reliance on this type of pitcher bc we're not good at developing our own

If a guy is making it to free agency, there's usually something wrong with them, or they were traded in a contract year

There is always a chance that the Rangers already have their ace and their #2.

I agree but I’m talking about the Lyles, Floty’s etc that we load our rotation with every season. I would rather see us bring in Syndergaard than spend some ungodly number of prospects on an “ACE” who is nearing the end of their career

I don't think we spent any prospects on Lyles or Folty.

Not what I meant we wasted money signing a bunch of level 4 or 5 FA types. And we’ll probably do it again this off season.

and then next season JD will probably trade away prospects for some reaching the end of the road ACE

They're rebuilding. Rebuilding teams have to roll out some spare starters to get through the season.

I specifically mentioned an ace, so Lyles and Folty are a completely different topic altogether.

As far as whatever we spent this year, it isn't keeping us from spending later when it counts.
