Heh, should’ve checked Twitter. They announced him as a ‘special advisor to hockey ops’ this morning.

Whatever, at least he’s not coaching!
His special op is finding himself a gig around the league

Pronman acts as Flyers GM at #6 here and takes Martone with Desnoyers, Frondell, and Hagens off the board. Says the talent gap between Martone and the next group of guys (O'Brien, McQueen, Martin, etc) is too high to force a C pick.

That's kind of a worst case scenario to me. Really hope Desnoyers, Frondell, or Hagens is available. Particularly the first 2 because I'm concerned the Flyers would pass on Hagens due to size concerns which would increase my frustration with them even more. I'd be OK with Martone, or O'Brien, if those other guys are gone, but what I'm really concerned about is them reaching hard on someone like Martin if Desnoyers, Frondell, and Misa are all gone by 6.

Ok, thinking about this while listening to podcasts and stuff that talked about the Flyers taking Martone.

What if Martone is the clear best available guy at #6. You take him at 6, trade the Avs or Oilers pick + Tippett for Rossi, and sign Bennett. Then you have something like..

Konecny-Bennett-Michkov
Foerster-Rossi-Martone
Cates-Couturier-Brink

As your top 9 next year. Maybe you slide Rossi to the wing, move Couturier up, Cates back to the middle, and hopefully Bump or Grebenkin can come up.

Longer term, Luchanko could push Rossi to the wing more permanently? Might not have that consistent 100+ point guy, but you'd probably have 6 guys capable of 60+, maybe even 70+.

Konecny-Bennett-Michkov
Rossi-Luchanko-Martone
Foerster-Cates-Brink
Hathaway-Couturier-Bump

That'd be a pretty darn deep forward group with a nice mix of offensive skill, size/physicality, and two way ability. And the PP with Martone and Michkov could really be dangerous.

If Martone and Michkov hit as 80-100pt guys, maybe you can get by with basically four 2C's instead? Take some swings in the 20-50 range on guys like Ryabkin and maybe one hits big.
