Buzz from Eugene seems to be that the defense has struggled through fall camp and the coaches are not happy with the progress. Of course since they have closed practice it could be intentional bad info. Wouldn't put anything past any coaching staff these days, more or less one being heavily underrated that might be happy flying in under the radar.

The way I heard it was they weren't where Hoke had hoped they would be. But ask a good coach and he will always say there is room for improvement.

Yeah, it's not just the generic comments from Hoke. Nigel Burton (pac12 network) was the latest to talk about the stuff coming from sources inside the team. There have been others.

Again, might mean nothing. Might be false rumors. Just putting it out there as it keeps coming up.

I really don't have anything against the arizona schools so I don't tend to hate on them much. Really can't say much against utah and colorado because neither has been in the conference long enough to really build any hate for. And I've always pulled for Oregon State, but some of that is probably sharing a common enemy. That and liking Riley when he was there. WSU is a bit more complicated. Have friends and family that went there and other reasons to not really hate them, but I'll still laugh at them when they coug it so I wouldn't say I root for them fully either.

Fuck the cali schools and all of their snobbery. I'd say fuck Oregon, but that's kind of obvious.

As with you guys, I'll pull for the teams I don't hate if I hate their opponent or their coach more, otherwise I really don't care if they win or lose as long as it doesn't hurt us.

Yeah - that's typically my thought process as well, although there is no one but Bama that I care about in the SEC.

In the PAC, I like ASU, and then I enjoy Stanford, Colorado, & Oregon. Don't really care about anyone else although I would pick the Huskies over the Cougs any day of the week.

I'm a USC fan. I pull for other PAC teams on a case by case basis. I can literally be pulling for a team one week and then against them the next week.

The only team that doesn't apply to is UCLA. Fuck them.

also sometimes I don't necessarily root against a Pac team but I dont necessarily root for them either. I will watch some of these games and just hope to be entertained. and if the pac team happens to win so be it and if they lose thats ok too. and depending on who they lost to I might laugh at them.

That is interesting Oly. How did the 116th ranked defense go 9-4, which included beating top 25 Stanford and USC late in the season?

VA was part of it Stanford game was just kind of everything coming together just right. USC was a beating. mostly by VA 400 yards passing 6 TD to 6 players (WR/TE/RB), and Freeman 147 yards rushing Addison receiving 105.
both games defensively were avg. both USC and Stanford had about 6 games on either side better and worse in terms of yards gained and points.

any game bold game predictions for your team besides WL and score?
For example
I predict Oregon, against UC Davis, will have 3 players with 100+ rushing.

Really hard to get into those kinds of things with zero understanding of where your team is at. I'll say UW gets 3 turnovers against Rutgers and at least two different players will get credit for a sack. Really can't say anything about the offense until we at least see it.

Heard the same thing. Could be smoke and mirrors, but I'm not buying that. They lost 6 out of 7 starters from the front and 4 out 5 best tacklers. People said I was crazy for claiming their D could be worse than last years, but it's very possible.
Hoke is implementing a whole new 4-3 and that takes time.
8 wins or less. That's my call and sticking to it.

I would buy 3 turn overs and 2 sacks. I might even wager a def TD for UW against Rutgers. if not them then one of the other 2 non conf teams.

TASU's secondary has been cobbled to gather for this season. Our QB, whoever it turns out to be, has never thrown a pass in a game. The offensive line has 15 starts between them. Some are predicting as few as three wins for ASU this year, normal for a team that has to rebuild rather than reload.
