PAC12 had a nice show on last night that broke down each teams bowl performances and talked about how their looking for the 2016 season.

Even with the losses of familiar names at Stanford, they were all pretty much in agreement that Stanford still has the roster to be the PAC champs again in 2016.

4* DB Jared Mayden decommits from oregon.
Can't say its a surprise with all the coaching changes and what not but also kinda is since his postion coach didn't change.

Could of waited till the new DC and final staff is announced, but it's possible he didn't want to wait to LOI or later to find out. Helfrich has got to make the right choice in this matter. If he doesn't, he could be looking for a new job in 2017.

These losses happen during these significant of a personal change. You can afford some losses to this years class cause the concern has got to be the existing players on the team right now. Get the right D crew together and you can make up for it by loading up with next years class to help with any gaps.

Barry J Sanders has been granted a release to do a graduate transfer (to any school not in the PAC), and RS Jr. WR Michael Rector has finished his degree and is most likely going to enter the draft. His ambition is Medical School and an extra year in an MS program will not benefit him that much.

So add those 2 to Hooper plus the senior starters who are graduating and Stanford is losing 6 starters on offense (Murphy, Garnett, Hogan, Cajuste, Hooper, Rector) and 5 starters on defense (Shittu, Scarlett, K. Andersen, Martinez and Harris).

There is talent to back all of those guys up, but there will be some growing pains on the O-line in particular. The key will be if Chryst (#3 PP, RS SO in '16) or Burns (#5 DT, RS Jr. in '16) has learned the offense and how to make the correct check downs from the 4 plays they are generally given pre-snap. IF, big IF the QB's in waiting have learned the system then Stanford could be OK, if not it could be another 8-4 season. The only easy wins on the schedule (even year road schedule is a terror) are Kansas, Rice, Oregon State and Colorado. The rest are toss ups at best.

I have no idea how good Stanford will be but the culture is solid and they seem to plug in guys who know their roles. Whats up with USC and Stanford always playing each other in the first couple of games of the season? Is that a thing now? USC plays Bama then Utah State and then Stanford and Utah. Thats a pretty tough way to start the season. And only one of those games at home. Can you imagine an SEC team playing four games to start the year with two out of conference opponents and having only one of those games at home?

Imo, Stanford has found a perfect formula that almost makes their entrance requirements an advantage. I say almost because at the end of the day, they can't get a lot of the 4 and 5 star players out there because they can't qualify, so that will always put them at some sort of disadvantage. But they've done a great job of severely lessening the impact of their entrance requirements.

As Buddha has pointed out in the past, Stanford kids tend to graduate which means that they are sticking around for 4-5 years, virtually all of them. So, they are consistently replacing a guy who has been there 4-5 years, with another guy who's entering his 3rd-5th year in the program. That experience helps them to overcome a good bit of what they might lack in overall athleticism.

They also recruit big nasty O linemen and really smart athletic defensive players. They aren't the 5* guys but they are players who take well to coaching .

Really good point.

Sorta how like mid major basketball programs like Whichita State and Butler (From a few years ago) were able to compete with the big time programs. They had 4-5 year Seniors going up against these one and done freshman.

Arizona is getting a new D coordinator also. Long overdue and quite shocking to be honest.

Well Oregon State has a new DC now, guy out of Utah State last year. Worked w/ Anderson in the same capacity in the past. Stay w/ what you know.

ONWERDZ!

footnote:

State's new DC Kevin Clune's defense at Utah State was ranked 17th in the nation last year...

BOOM!

I'll take the DC tradeoff we had this/last year.

We took their excellent Dline coach whose a former Husky. Good hire for the Beavs and still a few weeks before LOI to help minimize damage to the class. :thumb:

Washington will be looking for a new AD. Scott Woodward is reported to have accepted an offer to become the AD at Texas A&M. Rumors about this happening were around for a couple days now. Micheal Young, the president of A&M worked at Washington and obviously why he pursued Woodward.

Bummer. Woodward has a good reputation and the they knocked it out of the park with the new stadium and facilities upgrades for many of the sports programs.

Hope they can land another good one and don't end up with disaster like Barabara "Edith Bunker" Hedges. She's all yours USC. Keep her forever.

True but do you have a good arguement for Arizona, Arizona State or Colorado over Utah?
Not at all. Just wondered if there wasn't something more than that to why two of you picked them where you did. If it's just the normal don't put the zonas up high enough to disappoint you then it's all good.

DE Johnathan Kongo, the #1 defensive JUCO prospect in the nation, has officially decommitted from Tennessee. His parents live in Canada - BC, and I have a feeling he'll be signing with a PAC school on LOI even though SEC schools and FSU are all still pursuing. Washington, Oregon are both high candidates, and UCLA and USC are both late offering him and trying to get full visits as well. He's got a Washington visit booked this month.

This kid is a freakish QB assassin and will be a force on any team he's playing for in 2016. Huskies please. :hope:
