That kids a long strider. I don't see him doing much running at the college level. He's going to be a mobile QB like Darnold is but I don't see him like what most of us think of as dual threat.
I still don't know why UW went after two QB's for this class. They need linemen.

Well they might be expecting one to change his mind and they are guaranteed to get at least one (the Wiz theory).

So it's named after me now is it? :noidea:

After UW lost Weddington to stanford, missed on Sarell, and had that late flip to USC, is anyone really that surprised that Petersen would go after insurances?

There's nothing wrong with that provided you aren't doing it SEC style and actually over offering scholarships you know you won't have. If he's willing to spend a second scholarship on another high profile QB good on him.

Yankoff kind of fell in their lap after the melt down at Oregon. I'm sure the staff was just as surprised as everyone else that he would pick UW with so many other solid offers to choose from. I don't believe he has any ties with the school like Sirmon does, but coming from Idaho I'm sure he grew up with full familiarity with Petersen and his staff.

Maybe the staff wants to see which one will be fully committed enough to go take it which one will waiver and show they aren't really as committed to what UW is doing as they are saying.

I really doubt they both make it all the way to signing day, but if they do one will leave after the other is named starter once Browning leaves the program and I doubt anyone will blame them for doing so. Both appear at this time to be viable P5 starters.

Hey you can't pass up the opportunity to get good QBs . If you get two on the hook you don't throw either back and if they don't mind the competition great. Most likely one will leave at some point but you let them do that on their own you don't push them away.

Well of course they aren't going to actually push them away. I just meant they both know about each other and it will test the resolve of both to stick it out all the way through LOI day and actually sign. They'd like nothing more than to carry both.

In this day and age I just don't see both sticking.

Another quarterback that has an argument for top billing on the weekend is UCLA pledge Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Each day, he improved his standing on 247Sports’ daily rankings landing at No. 11 following the opening day’s throwing circuit, No. 5 after the pro-day simulation, and No. 3 following the 7on7 portion

Yeah it's different if there was a year between them when one can redshirt giving you a two year cushion. USC was getting quality QBs during the Pete years and one would always transfer. The good thing is most of the time the best one stays. Darnold made two 5 star QBs transfer.

Well starting to face some of the issues that Carroll did really wouldn't hurt my feelings any if it pushes UW closer to that level of results. Reminds me a lot of the James era as well. Always had more than one top level talent in key positions and watched some kids that didn't get the play time transfer out.

It's a fantastic problem to have if it's actually a problem at all.

We're taking a large class this year. The first real one since Petersen arrived. 20+ players. 2 QBs is perfectly natural.

Also take a look at the length on the QBs and WRs that we're getting to commit. The plan for this program's offense isn't some massive smokescreen. Any team sporting a bunch of midgets in the backfield are going to get torn a new one.

Absolutely no reason to hit the panic button over Oline at this time. Camps are cranking up in June and July and coaches are out there doing their work. We'll get some nice looking beef this class.

Oh, sorry for that. I guess we just assumed you and your fellow duck fans understood that wins and losses on the field are not the same as arbitrary recruiting rankings 8 months before singing day. I guess we should all do a better job of explaining things to you in the future.

It looks to me like Oregon is on top based on number of recruits.

For example, in the Scout.com rankings they have 9 commits to USC's 6.

But...USC has two 5 star recruits to Oregons 0 and 4 players ranked in the top 100 recruits to Oregon's 1.

USC recruits have an average star rating of 4.33 to Oregon's 3.67.

Also Washington, (8 commits) has an average star rating of 3.75 and Utah, with 3 commits, has the same average star rating as Oregon.

In the 247 rankings, USC is shown with 6 commits to Oregon's 10 and USC again has the higher average of 94.92 to Oregon's 89.31. Washington (8 commits) has a rating of 91.98.

Also, as Wiz points out, we are quite a ways away from signing day and a lot can and will change between now and then.

Thats the 2018 list who wont even sign till next January and wont make an impact on the field till 2020. You need more than one year of good smart recruiting to turn around a team.

but according to all you guys Oregons coaches were all bad hires and no recruits would want to go to a dumpster fire like Oregon.

I get your excitement, but pump the brakes there bit man.

Nine.

You are pounding your chest over a grand total of 9 early verbal commits and attempting to use it as a sign that the program is very much still on the same track they were before Helfrich.

It's not working.

Someone bookmark this so we can show it to him if/when Oregon ends up like 6th in the class rankings after they are actually signed. It will make for a good laugh or two next February.

I like how you guys don't get passive sarcasm either. I always tell people to not get excited over these things in summer. I know Feb is a long way out. I know kids change their minds. and most of these are 3* players. im not thumping my chest or blowing my load over any of this.
