A little thin in a couple of areas for USC is still better than the fully loaded talent of all of the other teams in the conference.

Agree. That's why I said it can't be used as an excuse anymore. If we don't win the PAC, it won't be because we didn't have enough depth or talented players.

I actually disagree, the o-line should be healthy and none of them graduated except the right guard. The secondary is intact except strong safety. All the ILB and OLB are back. D-line is stout other than the loss of Thomas. Bryce Love is a freaky fast back, and I am hearing he may get beat out by Speights (RS frosh). Irwin is the best route runner I have seen since Largent, Arcega-Whiteside gives the O a Caujuste like height and speed mismatch. Finally, I think you will see a lot of Shultz, Taboada and Parkins in three TE sets similar to the days of Ertz, Fleener and Toliolo. Nothing helps a green QB like multiple tight ends to dump too.

The big question for me is FB, can Marx stay healthy, if not it is up to a freshman or fifth year walk-on to bulldoze those wholes.

any chance of seeing a love/speights backfield for a few plays? i would have liked to see more of mccaffrey / love last year...

also, who has the inside track at qb (assuming it's not chryst)... ryan, or will shaw roll the dice with costello?

Chryst is expected back for training camp, ahh modern medicine. From what I have read on the spring practices and game, Costello has the arm but is not making the reads. Burns showed massive improvement from what I have heard.

if burns can read and react faster, he'll be fine. seems like most of his problems were from indecision at the moment of execution...

hopefully they'll get costello engaged and some playing time so he's not a complete newbie in '18 or '19

fingers crossed on chryst - if he keeps progressing from where he left off last season, we'll be in good shape

From a pure QB perspective Luke Falk should be on top. Browning has to show he's recovered from the surgery and can get over the jitters under pressure and Darnold has to prove he wasn;t a one year wonder.
If I was going to rank the PAC QB's :
1. Darnold
2a. Falk
2b. Browning
3. Rosen
4. Herbert

5 - 10 ... no idea.

Rosen has just as much talent as the top three. Maybe not the mobility of Darnold but pure QB skills he's right there. His team and his attitude might keep him from being better right now. Like I said he's got a lot of the Aaron Rodgers personality except Rodgers has performed so people give hm a pass.

I think Rosen will be a big hit in the NFL but he has the bad luck of playing for Mora. Darnold is NFL bound for sure ... Browning won't make it in the NFL imo due to arm strength and Falk ... not sure tbh. Herbert from Oregon ... that's the kid to keep an eye on. He's got some serious arm strength.

If Rosen had the coaching Browning has had he'd be really amazing. Browning will get a few years in the NFL like Cody Kessler got. I don't think he's got the arm strength and body frame for the NFL pounding to stick for longr than about four years. But that will set him up for life. People have said if Darnold was available he'd have been the top pick this years draft. It's going to suck to see him gone so soon. It's almost better to have a Browning who will stay and play that extra year. Changing QBs every two years makes it tough to put together something good unless you're bama whos defense is so good your offense just has to be decent. maybe thats Petersons plan. Build the defense so the offense only has to be decent.

You nailed it ... that's the bonus with Browning ... he will be there his senior year. That gives those new QB's coming in '18 a little breathing room so that they have time to learn the playbook while bulking up in the weight room.
