Military style workouts doesn't mean they were military work outs. adapting certain aspects of military workouts doesn't mean they are actual military workouts. multiple players have stated they were allowed to take breaks at any time.I keep hearing it was "military style training". Now you say allowed to rest and get water. lol. As a former Marine those two things don't go together.
Football players should be in pretty good shape. Maybe these were O linemen and really werent used to serious training. As a strength supervisor he should have known their limits. if it was just one then maybe I can see it just being a mistake. If it's three then the instructor fucked up. Not saying the players werent soft . Just saying the guy in charge should know the signs of a person in trouble..
Then they should call them civilian bootcamp workouts. The fact that you can get up and say I need a break means its not military at all. My friend does a beach bootcamp on weekends. Its hard as hell but nothing compared to military bootcamp or survival school. That coach fucked up. Thats why hes on time out.Military style workouts doesn't mean they were military work outs. adapting certain aspects of military workouts doesn't mean they are actual military workouts. multiple players have stated they were allowed to take breaks at any time.
Did they create individual programs per each students evaluated physical condition? No. It was a blanket workout that did not take into account NCAA guidelines for preventing this sort of thing. They should have brought up their conditioning more slowly and ensured none of the more out of shape students were working too hard for their condition. It is a requirement of that job and they completely failed to do so and directly lead to injured students, several of which spent many days in a hospital because of it.and allowed to rest and take breaks and get water as needed.
Teams do not suspend coaches to appease the media. They also do not make statements that changes have been made to programs that were not at least in some way culpable in causing harm to the situation.token move for all the media warriors calling for action
You are going to steadfast hold to your guns that this was 10000000% on the students and them alone at all costs aren't you? Just too hard to admit the staff failed these kids and have been punished for it.
It's more that the NCAA guide says to evaluate each student and give them a program catered to their needs which is supposed to help prevent this and yet this was an open free for all type of workout without any regard for what shape each kid was in at that time. If it is actually in the NCAA guidelines then this staff should be aware of it and understand what it is designed to do. We don't expect kids to know about those conditions for pushing yourself too far unless that staff actually stresses it. They are teachers. It's a school.I think both are at fault. Not sure who I would blame more.
There should have been mandatory breaks. I remember "old school football two a days" and even back then, when guys would run off the field to puke and were expected to get right back to running drills (if you puked on the field, you had to run more), we had mandatory water breaks.
On the other hand, players have to be responsible for themselves and each other to a point. These guys have to know to take breaks and/or seek help if they aren't feeling right. There are some things a coach can't be expected to see.
you mean the media may have dubbed something to make it seem worse than it was? Then they should call them civilian bootcamp workouts.
