So this is what Lou Holtz actually said? Sounds fairly accurate.

However, he has lost to Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, Michigan twice. And everybody (that) beats him, does so because they are more physical than Ohio State. And I think Notre Dame will take that same approach."

osu however seemed to be the more physical team.
Hasn't he also beaten Clemson, UM more than once, ND now 2X, PSU, Wisky and others?

His comment that OSU pretty much had 1 bad qtr. last year was accurate.

Sounds to me like holtz is saying when an opposing team is as physical or has as much or more talent day usually gets beat.

osu usually has more talent than those teams.

I mean, the guy has lost 6 games in his career. I think most thought UGA had a lot more talent last year (especially on D and hard to disagree) and, sure, we lost but the O went up and down the field on them despite playing without their top 2 WRs, top TE and top 3 RBs.

Can agree he needs to get it together against UM again.

So...Pardon my ignorance, I don't watch a lot of college ball. I did watch the end of Ohio/ND last night though and saw something that struck me as odd.

0:15 left in the game. Ohio snaps and the clock starts.
Play evolves, throw downfield, catch and tackle at the 1 yardline at 0:10 left. Player is down by contact.
Clock ticks again to 0:09 and stops
Ohio comes running down the field, Lines up, Clock starts again, 0:08...0:07, snap and spike to stop the clock.

But the clock had already stopped...???
I re-watched it this morning and sure enough 8 or 9 seconds ticked off between the clock stopping with 9 seconds left and it starting again so they could snap the ball to stop the clock.

Is their some strange rule in college ball that stops the clock in some weird situation, or did somebody stop the clock when they were not supposed to and Ohio got away with a lucky break?

FWIW...I have no dog in the hunt, I just like watching good football.

And let’s not forget the obvious bad officiating with wrong calls in that game

OSU is always loaded with talent. So they don't come up against those type of teams very often, and win nearly all their games.

I think it's a little weird that day would go off like that after the game. If he's that concerned about what the media says he's going to have a lot of sleepless nights.

I'm not a blame the ref guy but my god were there some bad ones. Could not believe no one was even bringing up until much later that Harrison got a foot in bounds by about 5 feet. Figured had to be a bobble (even though not mentioned at time) but sure didn't look like it. still went far on that drive but didn't even matter. The gamechanger was the roughing on Fryar. Always thought you could jump on a guy on ground if play still going. Unnecessary but thought legal.

I'm sure some bad ones on ND.

I cannot recall someone going off on them in the media like Holtz did (other than maybe Mark May) with comments that were so absurd.

But, sure, could have let it go.

Harrison also look like he was holding on that long touchdown run of osu's too. He had that DB completely locked up by grabbing his shoulder pads. There was also a pass interference call that was missed against OSU. Calls went both ways, and they were Big Ten refs.

I'm not seeing why what holtz said was such a big deal. He just said teams that are more physical than OSU usually beat me Mark May.

Did we lose to UGA because they were more physical? Guy makes his kick at end OSU wins.

I can think of a few games where that happened, but 2 were before Knowles got here...Oregon and UM in 2021.

as I said, I'm sure there were some that went our way, but the Harrison block was fine and one you'll see by a receiver who blocks on every play.

As to the PI...not sure which one you are talking about but I thought other than a couple obvious calls the refs let those go and were consistent.

Georgia was pretty physical and had as much, maybe more, talent than osu.

Obviously this hit a nerve with Day, indicating there may be some truth to it. Most coaches would have not made a post game speech over it. May acts like his manhood was questioned or something. Holtz stated the obvious, if you can be more physical than OSU you can beat them.

stated the obvious but was incredibly wrong? With Knowles as the DC when have they lost because of their lack of physicality? UM game and?

UGA had maybe more talent? #1 defense with a ton of high picks. OSU without their top 2 WRs, top TE, top 3 RBs....went up and down field on them.

May not have understood him but Holtz has made speeches like this.

Harrison had that DB completely locked up. There's no way you can lock up a DB like that without holding him. And it resulted in a touchdown.

You're admitting they lost to Georgia because Georgia had more talent.

I don't think I've ever seen holtz single someone out in the media after a game like that.

No, we lost that game because our kicker missed the winning FG. We were playing backups and hanging just fine with Georgia.
