You keep saying this word overpay and I am not sure it means what you think it means...this year dollar per WAR projects to be 8 million per 1 fWAR. You pay a guy 20 million and all he needs to do is put up 2.5 fWAR to be worth it.

No, it means what I think it means. Is Chris Davis going to be a $25m player every year for the next 6 years? I'm betting no.

Re: Gallo - If all that is true, then I don't understand why he's been referred to as "untouchable" in trades.

Re: Davis - that can't be right, can it? Why would Boras want the same $ amount but an additional year? Lowering the AAV makes zero sense. As for the O's, good on them if they pulled it off the table. Their $150m offer was a ridiculous overpay and Davis should have immediately signed it. I hope this comes back to bite Boras in the ass.
The $150 million was for 7 years and the $200 million Boras wants is for 8 years. At least that is what I read.

Norm is a good talk show host, but he really has no idea how fast Gallo will be ready. If they all stay helathy, which Gallo didn't last year, then Gallo, Mazara, and Brinson could all appear to be ready by July. Of those 3 I would think Mazara gets the first chance because of Hamilton's inability to stay healthy. If Beltre gets hurt we will probably get to see Gallo.

You realize in 6 years what it means to be a 25 million a year player is going to be drastically different than it is today right? Unless the market bottoms out 25 Million a year will be like what 18 million a year is now in 6 years.

That's why as shitty as Elvis as been if he can fucking turn into just a 3 win player he will have been more than worth his contract. Fucking do it Elvis! You little turd! Fucking do it!!!

"worth his contract" - as it relates to that WAR/fWAR projections model, which isn't a sustainable business model to follow when building an actual team. Otherwise, Mike Trout would be making about $75m a year. You have to take into account the fact that 24 other guys receive paychecks too. So when I say "overpay," it relates to the existing system of contracts in place and the effect of a contract on the team's budget.

There where we differ. I don't really give much of damn what he says. It's what he ends up doing that I pay attention to.
But that is why I pay attention to what he says. In the past he has almost always done what he said he was going to do. I have learned that what he says he is going to do he will do. If this was Wash saying all of this I would ignore it because he didn't mind lying. I have learned to trust JD. You choose not to and that is your prerogative. That's fine.

If things were static I would agree with you. I sometimes wonder if part of the reasons guys ask for so much is that they play for jackshit in their youngest and most productive years. Harper and Trout both could be injured tomorrow and never play again and not get their just reward for their ability because of stupid rules.

If guys could come into the league making what they are worth maybe contracts wouldn't be so ridiculous now. And it's all kinda dumb to argue anyway because we are talking about intangible shit that we still cannot necessarily verify if it leads to winning championships. It's not like the teams with the highest WAR win every year.

Sorry....pilot error. Boras wants an additional year and a $200 mil contract. This is why the O's yanked their offer to him.

Just send him to the Mariners already. Dipoto will give him it gladly.

Oh there's no question that happens and it's only going to get worse. That's why Kris Bryant filed his grievance... he doesn't think he should have to wait an extra year to cash in based on when the Cubs brought him up. Does he have a point? Sure. And with WAR/fWAR becoming a bigger and bigger aspect of the game and how it's measured, there's definitely going to be some loggerheads between front offices and agents when it comes to these players that are coming into the game and rewriting how good you are at a young age. Harper, Trout, presumably Bryant, Correa, et al... That train is going to keep going and I think we're going to see some changes made in how these younger guys get paid at the start of their career.

But Davis? Screw him. He's had two good seasons and sucked complete ass for the Rangers in his younger years. Take the $150m, greedy dipshit.

People are still mad about him? Eh...some guys don't get good until they have a change of scenery. Not like Texas hasn't taken advantage of that before from other players.

If Beltre gets hurt we will probably get to see Gallo.

The Joey Gallo I saw last season was a player who wan't close to being ML ready IMO.

Could be get called up just b/c he's one of few options? Absolutely. But I sure hope he proves at AAA he can handle the pitching there first.

I have heard it said the reason he was struggling at AAA was that he was focusing on trying things out and not just production in AAA. No clue how true that is and if it's a valid excuse, but yeah he was not ready at all last year. We saw a glimpse of his power though and it was nice.

I wonder how much his foot injury affected him. He was still bothered by that when the season ended.

I believe I just read he's got more HR than anyone in baseball over the past 4 seasons.

And yes he struggled mightily here. But bye his own admission he admitted he was very immature and conducted himself as such. And once he had a few good seasons he thanked the Rangers for giving him an opportunity, and frankly, I thought handled himself quite well.

As far as greed is concerned, I don't hold the player responsible for asking for any amount of money. Look what's just happened on the pitching market. It's up to the owners to control the madness, and instead it's only getting worse. At least more pronounced anyway.

Not mad, but c'mon... no one saw 2013 or 2015 coming from Chris Davis, and to get a $150m offer on the strength of those two seasons? Dumb for not signing. Maybe he gets more from someone else, who knows. Just irritates me when a guy like that turns down money like that.

Lounge singer?

I just heard on 105.3 he's been in Japan for years, and the club he was with wanted $500K for him. No one bit. So I don't know how much the Rangers gave the guy. Maybe don't know why either. ha
