In Beltre we trust.
First, not what I asked. Second, it was a "factual question" regarding what had been previously stated.
Heh no worries. I should have added the meme, but was being lazy.

JD is really good at bargain shopping and being creative. He was able to make the Hamels trade by including a big contract to give Philly. We paid dearly for doing that though. Had money not been an issue we would have not had to give up so much. There is just so many times you can do that kind of thing and still keep a healthy farm system and a healthy farm system is essential for a budget conscious team.OK....fair enough.
From an observation standpoint, some should really refresh the memory button on how and when we became relevant last year. If memory serves, we were resurrected after most around baseball, most posters here - me included - had our coffin and plot all picked out.
JD saved the day guys after we started off just horribly. Remember?

We will have to disagree about what it took to get the deal done. I don't think there was anyway we could have traded for Hamels without shedding a major contract plus getting Philly to pay some of Hamels salary. To get that done I believe we had to sweeten the deal considerably.I disagree with that take. Philly wanted Jake Thompson in that deal and the only way Texas agreed was for them to take Harrison who had no place on the roster if he wasn't healthy.
And they still have a more than healthy farm system. That trade didn't deplete them.

Yes, the farm system is still healthy. I am saying you can't keep giving up prospects just to make a trade acceptable financially or you will not have a healthy farm system.
Please let us know how it goes, for those of us unable to listen.
As a side note, he mentioned the O's offer to Davis of 6/7 years at $150 mil. Boras has come back with 7/8 years at $150 mil.
- Feels a 2/3 year deal with Beltre is prudent.
- But, it also tells us something about Gallo's growth, or lack of. Not so concerning b/c (a) Beltre is still playing very well, and (b) Gallo is still only 22 years old. Perhaps we just need to slow down our expectations. And he doesn't think Gallo's future is in LF or 1st.
- Thinks Mazara will easily beat Gallo to the ML club, full time.
Texas gave up so much because Hamels is an ace. Has nothing to do with his contract. Philly was not going to trade him for salary relief alone. I wish they had agreed to do that, but that's not how things work when a guy is still at the top of his game.
It's not like the Angels with Josh who just wanted him gone. Cole was and still is on the best starters in baseball signed for years. You have to pay for that when you trade, ergo Texas gave up prospects.
You speak about this stuff as if you run the books. I don't quite get that mindset, but it keeps this board active so keep on.

NOW I just heard the O's are pulling the initial offer!
I don't want him to think there is any animus when I say something like that though. It's just a circular debate that happens when nothing is really going on around here.Wish I could like this 100 times.
It would have taken a lot to get Hamels straight up without any salary relief. That is very true.Texas gave up so much because Hamels is an ace. Has nothing to do with his contract. Re: Gallo - If all that is true, then I don't understand why he's been referred to as "untouchable" in trades.
Re: Davis - that can't be right, can it? Why would Boras want the same $ amount but an additional year? Lowering the AAV makes zero sense. As for the O's, good on them if they pulled it off the table. Their $150m offer was a ridiculous overpay and Davis should have immediately signed it. I hope this comes back to bite Boras in the ass.

If you get salary relief like the Rangers did you have to give up something for that as well. It just stands to reason to me that most of what we gave up was for Hamels, but a part of it was for that salary relief. They didn't help us out financially out of their good heart. Part of what we gave up was certainly for that.
I don't think you have to run the books to realize that we couldn't have afforded Hamels contract and Harrison's contract. You just have to be able to listen to JD and read what he says.
