40-man roster decisions impact Rule 5 Draft

Next on Rangers to do list. Roster a few players

Good to know this....and these are the 3 guys available from the Mariners.

Seattle Mariners (3)
No. 5 Patrick Kivlehan, 3B/1B
No. 7 Boog Powell, OF
No. 16 Tyler Marlette, C

And I couldn't help but notice Houston leads the way 11. Seems like an awful lot.

I'm not sure how accurate that list is... I thought Mazara / Mendez / Guzman had another year left before they had to be added?

You should be right. Damn that's something I didn't even think about with Nomar and Ronald. I bet Maz is on the 40 next year anyway, so no worries.

I like that #5 and #16 from Seattle. I also like their #6 Tyler O'Neill. I hope there is some way one of those can be the PTBNL.

From that list I would protect Mazara for sure and probably Mendez. The rest I would leave unprotected. I don't see how anyone would be able to keep Guzman on their roster all year long. He still has a lot of developing to do. You might gamble on Mendez, but why take the chance.

Frank Lopez is an intriguing guy, protect worthy he's on the fence, pitched very well in High Desert but not so much in Frisco, would be interesting to see where his development takes him

But yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if left unprotected

Yes this list differs from Scott Lucas list where Mazara has another year. Just a guide not gospel in my book. Just something to get ready for. Next step in Ranger offseason

Ha perhaps a different gospel. I do not think Mazara needs to be protected although he is likely roster addition sometime this next season. One guy not on list is Conner Sadzeck the 100mph pitcher in AZ league. He is not on Mayo's list but needs rule 5 protection from what I have read.

Evan says they will add LeClerc, Lamb, Mazara and Sadzeck. That would bring the roster up to 39 players and he thinks they keep a spot open for adding someone from the Rule 5 draft or in the Winter Meetings.

He does seem to contradict himself in his reasoning to keep Lamb while at the same time suggesting they very well might jetison Claudio. His reasoning for keeping Lamb include "he's a lefty reliever and lefty relievers tend to mature late" and "Rule of thumb on lefty relievers: Hold 'em as long as possible, if possible."

The Mariners have added Powell and Kivlehan to their 40 man roster. I wonder if this rules them out to be the PTBNL. Kivlehan is one of the three I was hoping to get.
