Unless you are meaning from the stand point of why pay a guy 11 million and change to do what you can pay him 500K to do until arbitration. And I get that, because you are only gaining 1 year of team control from the deal.

Right. Odor will get his deal for sure, but not this offseason.

I see no reason to rush it either, but I certainly wouldn't be upset if he signed for that price at some point. Better than what we paid Kinsler for sure.

I guess "massive overpay" was the wrong way to phrase it. The contract makes sense, the timing (right now) doesn't.

Meh, I figured out what you meant. I get all the risks involved. He could be really really great this year and that would drive the price of extending him up. Or they could extend him and he could be really really bad or get hurt and have another Matt Harrison on their hands.

You'd be gutting your farm btw just hamels and fernandez.

take that and run.

then you can make minor deals to build up the pen. Maybe get a lefty to play some 1B to spell pearce and you're looking pretty good.
