Very few people (and this is a general statement, not directed towards these boards) seem to understand that a GM has to evaluate moves with the present, near future, and far future in mind.

And I agree but it is also to make good baseball moves that help the team now, next year and 3-5 years down the road

How much do you want him to increase the budget this offseason? $20 million? $25 million? $30 million? How much more would it take for JD to do what you think is his job?

What if what could help the team now conflicts with what could help it down the road? A lot of times that kind of conflict is a very real issue in JD's line of work. Sometimes GMs have some very tough decisions to make in regards to those type of questions.
