no there are SOME fine old fims out there,,,,,I don't care for the subtitles but in the end they really don't hurt the film one bit,,,,,,,,me I like old westerns

I like Old Westerns too. REally dig Searchers,Stagecoach, Once Upon a time in the West, Wild Bunch.

I don't mind subtitles at all. I mean hell, noir wise there's no better culture than 50-60's Japan to begin with as a basis for the story. And then there's the whole Kurosawa Samurai-Western motif....

Not to mention, if you forego subtitles, you miss great stuff from Kurosawa, Godard, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Clouzot, etc....

Subtitles ruin it for me, mostly because I have no idea if the actor/actress is giving a William Shakespeare performance.... or a William Shatner one.
