In AZ we just had a swamp cooler.

I think swamp coolers are only good if you can't afford $500.00 month ac bill.
They just cool air over water flow.
They do work though."

We hit up the upstairs, on hot days, and leave the downstairs off.
Gotta sleep....

I do that too, shut all the vents off in basement.
We have radiant heat in the basement floor, so in the winter we do the opposite and let it rise through the levels.

That's what I mean about cooling dry air. A swamp cooler wouldn't work well here with the high humidity, it would just get more sticky in the house. Central air takes the humidity out of the air too.
