Yeah, but 90% of people here are paying mortages based on the pre deflated prices.
Except for the millions of deadbeats who welched on their home loans.
They were the ones who created the massive drop in home prices.
Had at least 4 of them here in my hood, who bought at $1,000,000 and when the prices dropped, they just bailed, and left it to the bank, who then sold at firesale prices.

We are not underwater, cause we put a large down when we bought, and also bought at a good bit lower than the high.

But yeah, like ghost said, over $200 a month for water, $7,000.00 in property tax, almost 10% sales tax, etc, etc.
They got a real racket going on out here......

you put yourself in that spot,,,no one else to blame,,,,around here you can buy a top notch house for $300K or less sitting on 100 acres with property tax under $500.00 a year

We have in our city/state

9.25% sales tax (higher on alcohol) on most goods other than raw food (2%)

5% flat state income tax

a local gas monopoly (that can result in about a $300-400/month bill for a 1600 sqft condo in winter)

very overpriced electricity considering we have over 50% capacity from nuclear

but I think our property tax rate is lower than average. I let the wife handle all that paperwork and checks because it pisses me off too much

an average of $1/20 miles on our toll roads

I can only imagine how much more it would be if we didn't finance so much of our government operations through (as of 2 years ago... a national top 3 dui citation per capita, and a ton of red light cameras )

:(

(not what I chose, just what I'm actually really good at ?)
