How many FAs actually consider anything other than money when choosing a team?
Terry, I get where you’re coming from, but back to my point you don’t get rid of the most important part to building a team. Like I said if cousins is gone then there either goes your 1st rnd pick or multiple picks to try and replace. Then you might face the situation of players that are on this team worth keeping may not even won’t to hang around if they feel there is no qb. Free agents may not want to sign.
As you waste the picks trying to replace those picks could’ve went to getting the right team around the qb. Even worse if the replacement you get turns into a complete bust you go through the same cycle again and turn into what the skins have been for 15+ years before cousin Kirk

Then you risk overspending on your QB but not being able to afford the other pieces to the puzzle. Trust me, I get why you keep Cousins. I get why you pay him that much. It just limits you on how much you can spend on supporting pieces. Cousins might want to think about the team and take a little less. Don't think that's gonna happen though. I think $24M is a good deal.
Dude, open your eyes. Please see post #192 for explanation of why Player B is not automatically better than player A in Offense or system X.
Carry on.

Until you can show me a contract that if given to Cousins will cause us to be unable to sign other players, this is hyperbole and just another way of saying.. well I dont think he deserves to get paid like the "Elite" QBs in this league.
They could give Kirk the Exclusive tag at $3m next year and we would still have $26M in cap space.
They could give Kirk a fully guaranteed $30M a year for the next five years, and we would have
31, 50,82, 145 and 162M project cap space respectively.
So Im sorry, paying Kirk does not mean we wont be able to sign other pieces. And in fact not signing Kirk will likely mean we NEED to sign big name free agents, because it likely means we wont have the draft picks to fill out those roster spots.
Redskins spent $28M this year in free agency. If you pay Cousins $30M next year, you don't have $28M to spend in free agency next year. Not to mention all of the rookie contracts, which might take up $4-6M.
This will get interesting real fast. Can’t wait to see his response.Again...
Math here.
We have a projected $61M in cap space.
If we give Kirk $30M that leaves $31M in cap space,
Now the reality is, if we sign Kirk long term, his year one Cap hit will be LESS than $30M. But I will stick with the $30M that gets some peoples nuts all bunched.
$61-30=31
Now unless you expect us to spend $28M in FA every year, I really dont see the issue. Also IM curious where you are getting this $28M in FA number from?? The entire amount of cap hit for free agents we brought in was just shy of $14M
If you include guys we resigned, the total cap outlay goes up to around $21M in new money against the cap.

Where are you getting $61 from? I'm seeing $52 at projected cap space for next year. Here's where I'm getting my numbers from. Let me know if there's a better site to use.

Why would it get interesting?

$58.1M projected, figure we will carry over around $3M from this year (being conservative) = $61M in projected cap space.
From the same site you are pulling from, thats an 8... not a 2.
But even with your math... Kirk costs $30M, leaving $22M
Ao which free agents that we are either going to need to resign or bring in, is going to cost us $22M?? Do share.
My guess would be because you arent the first person to go from, I dont think Cousins is worth it to, well Washington couldnt afford to do anything else if they sign him to that kind of contract.
You guys need a RB, you guys may be in the market for a WR, a decent O-lineman, another piece to the defense. You never know. Some pretty decent free agent wideouts and DBs next year. The cap space isn't much of an issue look at it in depth now.
Don't get what other people have anything to do with me.![]()
