Not to pile on the crap when the team isn't playing well, but I think you're right on here. Just taking a quick look at the other teams in the East, I count 10 teams whose goalie I would definitely take over Mason/Neuvirth if we were just looking at this year's playoffs: Was, CBJ, Bos, Pit, Ott, Tor, NJ, TB, Fla, NYR, and I'd have to give serious thought to NYI.
Point being is that you're right neither of these guys is leading this team to the Cup, so it doesn't really matter which one they re-sign in the offseason. We really need to focus on the development of the prospects.
Mason can be a top 5 goalie in this league for long stretches and can be a bottom 5 for long stretches which brings to a head that he is not a goalie that can win us a cup same with Neuvy. Do we really waste another year with either of them or do we throw Stolarz into the fire.i'm as big a Mason supporter as there is and even i can't argue that. kind of shocking to see it laid out like that. I'm not sure i'd take Toronto's, but the other 9 i agree with you. that's not where you want to be.

If this is the case which it may be what does he do when Stolarz is breathing down his neck next seasonCould Mason be one of those guys who plays better when he doesn't have competition breathing down his neck? Both goalies played poorly to start the season, then Mason played well when Neuvy was out but when Neuvy gets close to coming back his play tanks again. Not too different last year, if I remember correctly. Hard to keep up with all of Neuvirth's injuries, though...
I think we have a good enough team to make the playoffs this year and still have a bright future even without making a move this season. But we cant have all the defense be so young at once and eventually we wont be able to pay them all when they do arrive.I'm definitely glad to keep hearing this. A playoff appearance today is not worth sacrificing a real chance at a Cup tomorrow.
Need these 4 points-espescially eith the Isles having 3 games in hand
We will need to have some experience back there i dont know how or who but im not sure all those young dmen at the same time will be good for us.
Total BS call vs Gudas and there were some others that were questionable. We didn't help ourselves we needed to come out with more jump especially at home.Call me crazy, but I thought we largely outplayed New Jersey last night. We had the momentum in a tie game late in the second period and then the referees call a phantom clipping penalty on Gudas. I'm sorry, but that was a legal hockey check. I've been watching hockey for easily 20+ years and that play has never been a penalty. Bunch of fucking bullshit to call it. To make matters worse, they call a ridiculous unsportsmanlike on Simmonds, which gave the Devils a full two minute 5 on 3 and all they needed to win this game. Late in the period, we made one terrible line change and got completely gutted for it.
Even in the third period, I thought we came out very strong, but that was muted by a couple of rather weak tripping calls. The power play looked solid all game long, but never officially cashed in. We're just not getting the puck to the net often enough. We're moving it very quickly and getting good looks, but perhaps trying to be too fancy with it.
So frustrating to watch this kind of a game. Maybe our emotions got the best of us, because this was a very heated affair. I mean, I am sick and fucking tired of losing big to the fucking Devils. With all due respect, that's not even supposed to be a playoff team, whereas I think we have/had a real shot.
We are going to recover from this tailspin and have a good second half its just frustrating to know this team is better than we have been seeing for the past couple weeks.Idk if it's really time to give Stolarz the starting position, but I would love to see Morin and Sanheim as a pairing for the big club next season. I am sure that a couple of these guys will start in Nhl games later this season too, especially if we do manage to miss the playoffs or never recover from the current tailspin.
