I guess there may be "degrees" of anything.
In general running into the catcher should be allowed.
[an intentional "beatdown" I'm not in favor of. problem = officiating / opinion comes into play]

TK, not sure if you saw the play I am talking about.
The base runner, intentionally ran in front of the plate, and not to the plate, so as to bean over the catcher who wasn't even on the plate.
Not sure what they do about it?
