funny story back to my footy days

our Keeper wanted to play out for one game so our backup went in and he took midfield. We were fighting for a ball at center field and the opposing team tried to pass it to their player, my teammate (goalie playing out) had instincts kick in and he made a diving save to grab the ball which of course would have been wonderful if he was in the net and not at Center lol

YELLOW CARD.... hah our team sucked

So here's my question - is Erling Haaland having the best scoring season of ANY team sportsman ever?

If he finishes at his current pace, he would score 47 goals and would obliterate the previous Premiership season high of 34 goals.

Lets put this in perspective as that would be a 38% increase over the previous record. Here is how that compares to other best seasons and their runner up:
  • NHL - Gretzky - 92 goals, 6 more than next best Brett Hull - 7% better than 2nd place
  • NBA - Chamberlain - 4029 points, just under 1,000 points more than next best Michael Jordan - 32% better than second place
  • NFL - Tomlinson - 31 touchdowns, 3 better than next best Shaun Alexander - 11% better than second place
  • MLB - Bonds (73 HR), Judge (62 HR) - depending on your comfortability with *, they were 3 and 1 dingers better than McGwire and Maris respectively - 2 to 4% better
So aside from Chamberlain, whose accomplishment can partly be ascribed to "whoa, this guy is REALLY tall," the breaking of scoring records is generally in the range of 2-5% better than the previous best with occasional jumps to 10%.

Here is how Haaland's pace would break down in these other sports by comparison:
  • He would be on pace to hit 84 home runs in baseball (101 if juiced!)
  • He would be on pace to score 127 goals in hockey
  • He would be on pace to score 43 touchdowns as a NFL running back

In my book it always boils down to combined goals if you're playing at the top level. Haaland is doing well in both England and Europe thus far and if City make a run to the Final and he keeps scoring in both comps there's an outside chance he could nab 55-60 goals. Which is absolutely insane, except it's something that both Ronaldo and Messi have done in the past decade.

Good chance for Canada to play in another tough tournament before the next WC.

You do have to love the passion of the fans during a FA Cup match - Pretty good video from somebody who was at the Wrexham - Sheffield United match...

Well, if Wrexham can win the replay vs. Sheffield United, they would take on Tottenham at home in the 5th round.

Imagine spending a billion dollars during the winter window only to draw Fulham at home lol

I have to give credit to the Sport Republic boys, they spent some pretty hefty cash to help Saints avoid relegation, not sure if it's going to work, but at least they're trying.

Spurs with a big win over Man City. It's pretty crazy that Man City has yet to score a goal in Spurs' new stadium (five matches now).
