This trade is def gaining traction, especially with the trade of WR Diggs to Houston. If we do trade down with Buffalo, we will pick-up another Second Rounder and two Fourth Rounders. We will go from 19 to 28 and in doing so, we may miss out on Verse or Newton. But if we can get Murphy or even Fantanau at 28, this trade would really give us boost and we could fill some of our needs with some fabulous players.

That trade return is an aggressive guess. The value chart has even the 2nd rounder being an overpay. #19 is 875, #28 is 660, #60 is 300. They could conceivably get up another spot or two beyond the Rams with 28 and 60.

I don't know how any Rams fan would think the Rams would draft a wr in the 1st. Les and McVay have to be confident they shouldn't have to use a 1st round pick on a wr and just find a wr in the middle rounds and develop them. The last 1 round WR picked by the Rams was legendary Tavon Austin.

It’s simple.

Kupp is older and the injuries are piling up.

And if you can get a guy with Thomas’ size and 4.3 speed, you do it.

Those type of WR’s don’t grow on trees (think Calvin Johnson who Stafford did great things with ).

Johnson was 6’5” with 4.35 speed. Thomas is 6’4” with 4.33 speed.

Same thing can be said about the other positions as well.

They found Young and Turner in the 3rd last year.

They suck drafting in the 2nd ( Akers, Jefferson, Everett, Atwell, etc ).

Whoever they draft in the 1st ( assuming they don’t trade ), needs to have instant impact. Stafford and Kupp are almost done. Their window is realistically 2 seasons.

So, they can’t be taking someone who is going to take time to develop/get playing time.

DT/DE’s typically take time to have impact ( Christian Wilkins, Danielle Hunter, Chris Jones all took time to develop ).

Only the guys in the top 10 have instant impact.

So, that leaves OT, CB and WR. I don’t see the Rams taking a CB in the first. So, then it comes down to OT and WR. With the fact the Rams were interested in Odunze and that would require a trade up to get him, Thomas makes sense if the stay at 19 or do a small trade up vs getting into the top 6-8.

It's easy to say they haven't drafted so-and-so position in the first since however long ago. They've consistently traded away 1st rounders for the past 7 years. Since Austin's draft year in 2013, the Rams have only made 5 other first round selections and none since 2016. Ogletree in 2013, Greg Robinson and AD in 2014, Gurley in 2015 and Goff in 2016.

Only Austin and Robinson were bad picks, so the Rams have been pretty effective with their 1st rounders, using most of the traded picks to get two QBs and a shutdown corner. The one for Cooks was briefly successful.

Aaron Donald, Bryon Young, Kobie Turner all had recent immediate impact outside the top 10

New defensive line coach Giff Smith will have a lot of impact on this upcoming draft. Giff is one of the best assistant coaches in the NFL.

You could also argue that the dl options will be pushed out of potential top 10 spots by 4 QBs, 3 WRs and a LT this year. There may only be 1 spot in the top 10 for defense altogether.

The Brian Thomas selection in the First Round is gaining traction. There is a good chance, Thomas will be our First Round selection!

And for good reason.

There has been speculation that the Rams May let Kupp go after this season. If that is indeed the case, than WR is absolutely a need ( especially accounting for his injury history of late ), and this draft is loaded with studs in the 1st round.

That is not always the case from year to year.

Thomas is very volatile in terms of where he could go in the 1st. If the Vikes trade up for their QB, the Thomas watch likely starts at 11.

Yea, the two players that are gaining the most traction for the Rams in the First Round are Thomas and Murphy.

No way I’m taking Mims with his injury history.

Let that be another teams headache
Face took him in the mock draft Shopson and I are in.

He is very raw and not very polished.
