No way anyone eats this contract as a waiver pickup, IMO. “@renlavoietva: Waivers: MICHAEL RICHARDS L.A”

From what I've gathered, #LAKings were working on multiple deals to trade Richards over the weekend. Final one fell through late last night.

So I was listening to TSN radio and Ferraro was saying that it's possible that if he retires Philly is still stuck with the cap recapture penalties? Any way to figure this out? That would be fucking hilarious.

Luckily he's just going to take a position in the league office instead of retiring.

My have the mighty fallen, the guy was such a good player only a few yrs. ago. Still no way will a team eat that contract now especially given his drop in production.

I really wish CapGeek was around so that we could actually figure out what would happen in different scenarios.

Do they put him on waivers just hoping someone takes him? Because if I'm not mistaken, burying him in the minors still gets the cap hit to LA and even retirement would still have them on the hook for a while, even if Philly is the one who gets the cap recapture penalty.

Can't happen - the Flyers traded the contract before the rule took place

That's the way I understand things, sfits (sfits, I kinda like that). Also, does Lombardi wish he could turn back the clock?

Reading those posts in succession just killed me, hahahaha

@TSNBobMcKenzie: If Richards sent to AHL, $925K of cap hit comes off LA’s cap … would represent $4.825M of dead cap space.

I don't think the trade matters. The only thing that decides who gets hit with the penalty is who benefited from it.

I think, theoretically at least, that both teams can get hit if they both got a benefit.
