His favourite team is the Canucks (grew up in Kelowna, BC) and his parents are Canucks fans.

Thanks, Dash. That sounds like an easy decision to me. He would also give himself a chance to win a Stanley Cup much earlier than having to wait for the Oil to develop.

Well, the kid went and pissed off the Chief and the 19 over at Kukla's, so apparently he's destined for failure no matter where he goes.

Chief and his devotees can sure be idiots at times. :L

They seem to be pissed at Calgary for signing Wideman as well...Yet a lot of the pundits agree that he's either the 2nd or 3rd best UFA defenseman out there. Oh well.

Bruce Boudreau's comments on Justin Schultz:

"I don't know what the heck happened there. We were in Chicago and we still weren't playing great and I talked to the kid straight up and said we could use you right now on the big club. We won't send you to the Crunch, as soon as you're through with Wisconsin we'll get you down there on the ice. The kid looked me right in the eye and said I can't wait coach, it's what I've always wanted. We also told him since we were playing him now it would move him one year closer to making millions of dollars. The kid seemed really excited and it seemed like a done deal when all of a sudden something dramatically changed. Someone got to the kid, it seems. I don't know exactly what happened but there's something fishy in Denmark."

I'm sure his agents had a "word" with him on the benefits of waiting a few months. Most kids just want to play.

More on Schultz

At least two high-profile teams that had hoped to get an audience with prized prospect Justin Schultz didn’t make the cut.

The Detroit Red Wings and Boston Bruins are among a long list of teams that didn’t make the negotiating list of Schultz, a highly sought-after UFA blue-liner from the University of Wisconsin.

That short list is believed to include Vancouver, Edmonton and the New York Rangers.

"We were informed we didn’t make the list," Red Wings Ken Holland told ESPN.com Thursday morning. "He’s a young player, we would have liked to have signed him, but what are you going to do? You go the office and go back to work."

The Wings are still expected to be heavy suitors for Ryan Suter come Sunday.

The Bruins, meanwhile, were also informed they weren’t on the Schultz short list, so that makes two Original Six teams who didn’t make the cut.

Schultz and his agents, Wade Arnott and Don Meehan, were at Newport Sports in Mississauga (west of Toronto) setting up meetings/calls with teams Wednesday and were slated to begin those talks Thursday.

Hope he winds up on the Leafs with 210 as his mentor.
(might knock him down a few pegs)

There would be a battle royale for the volume control on the boombox in the dressing room...

Never any guarantees with any player but you would be hard pressed to find an NHL scout who doesn't think Schultz has tremendous upside.

Wild about Schultz?

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie Strongly led to believe MIN, as in Wild, are in on shortlist for UFA dman Justin Schultz. That would make 6 teams we know of. Maybe more?

The Wild just got rid of a Schultz - why would they want another one?

But how do they move Gonchar?

No need to get rid of Gonchar. He could be gone as soon as the deadline but he could just be a third pairing guy, or part of a top four.

Schultz-Karlsson
Cowen- Gonchar
Phillips - Borowiecki/Low level UFA

or

Cowen - Karlsson
Phillips - Schultz
Borowiecki - Gonchar

could work.

I think Schultz gets top 4 minutes whether Gonch is with the Sens or not.

Thanks, man. Do we know Schultz's specialty strengths? PP/PK?
