was 58..fifty eight...by Henry Barrett in 1944.

On August 10, 1944, throwing for the Boston Braves against his former team Cincinnati Reds, Barrett pitched a 2–0 shutout at Crosley Field. He faced 29 batters (two more than the minimum, having surrendered two 2 hits, walked no one and struck out no one, with no defensive errors behind him), setting a complete game (and a nine-inning game) record by throwing only 58 pitches, an average of exactly two pitches per batter. It was also the shortest night game in history, and the shortest road-team win in history, lasting just 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Closest I can remember was Maddux throwing a 76 pitch 9 inning complete game against the Cubs. Never threw more than 11 pitches in an inning.

58 will be impossible to match.

I looked up the box and there is no weather reported.
However, the next day, same two teams the box score said the temp was 97 degrees and sunny.
On Saturday, it was 98.
For some reason the Giants came to town on Sunday to play a doubleheader

98 fucking degrees for a doubleheader, day game, flannel jerseys.
Etc on the weather ... an extreme heat wave.

That is an amazing bit of baseball history, and I don't not think it will ever be broken. He is listed in the Baseball Reference site as "Red" (Charles Henry) Barrett. An average pitcher with an amazing game.

They drank lots of beer afterward. Players were really in shape in those days. Hell, it was better than working at the foundry.

If you look at attendance for those games, it's clear nobody found a day at the ballpark much to get excited about.

That is true. They probably were drunk during the game!
