Harper said it perfectly last night

"There are about 20 faces of baseball right now"

So true, and I think most of them are out west

Arenado, Goldschmidt, Seager, Trout, etc.

All worthy

Agreed. Baseball doesn't need a single "face", there's so much young talent out there already.

That is a good point.

I value FIP more than ERA though, which is a controversial point. Like I said, their FIP's are much closer than their ERA's though I don't know how bad Kershaw's FIP would have to be to reach Thor. I don't think it'd be easy to calculate, though if you could, that would be interesting.
Rough estimate by my calculation would be about 4.40 FIP over 35 innings. League average last year was 4.19. That's based on a number that I can't 100% define (fielder independent total earned runs), but I tried to derive that from FIP and IP for each player.

Different feeling from Game 3 in 2004. There was a sense of "nowhere to go, but up" after that game. My mind was prepping for the offseason after the 5th inning anyway. Unlike in 2003 when my mind was preparing for the World Series when they were 5 outs away. Then having to stew on that for a year.

And I will never compare my sports experiences with yours.

2003/4 was back when I was a Red Sox fan. I agree with your view of '03, but I wasn't as at peace with Game 3 as you were. I remember feeling pretty damn dejected.

Oh that wasn't me at peace. Being at peace is a good feeling. That was a nothing feeling. And yeah that 2003 loss really hurt, especially since that is still my favorite Red Sox team assembled. Pedro was still Pedro, Wakefield was a legit starter, Ortiz exploded, Manny was one of the best (if not the best) hitters in the AL, Varitek and Mueller were studs, Nixon had an excellent season, Nomar was still there. It was just that damn bullpen with Byung-Hyun Kim and Ramiro Mendoza that killed me. That team had a 120 wRC+. Highest since the 1931 Yankees. By comparison, they have just 1 player with a 120 wRC+ this year and that's JBJ.

Nah. Since Trout's injury, I actually think it's been Harper. However, it's still Trout.
